reconciling with family?

my family has not been close especially over the past five years. I have decided to move across country leaving las vegas and will be leaving in two weeks to New York. I really started to regret not talking to my aunt and uncle for five years who lived only one hour for me. I wrote a letter stating I am sorry and miss them and they are in my heart. I did not send this letter because 1. is it fair to send two weeks before moving across country when there is little chance we will have time to see each other and especially will be more apart when i am 1500 miles away. My wife said it was a very nice letter but that I should write them only if I plan on seeing them and working on things, and i should give them a way to contact me in letter. We had some minor arguments five years ago and I held a grudge. I want them to know I regret not seeing them but I also still have anxiety to see them I miss my aunt a lot but I am not as enthused to see my uncle because he is an alcoholic and I am afraid he will bring up a lot of painful things or personal questions i do not want to talk about. BUt I could be wrong I miss him to I just have bad anxiety and social anxiety thinking about how things would go with Uncle.

Is it ok to write a letter just explaining I am sorry and I love them without the intent of seeing them but maybe talking on phone once in awhile or writing. Or since I have not seen them in five years and I am moving in two weeks should I just leave it alone and move on?

Can I just write them and leave it open to the future but not plan on seeing them in the next two weeks?

Growing up I was very close to my aunt and uncle and cousin and have not seen them for five years.

I'd wait and send a holiday card with a return address on the envelope.

It's a lot less messy that way especially if certain members cause anxiety. You have to take care of you firstly and your body is trying to tell you something. You should listen.

Safe trip! :)
