Singles cruise? Other ways to meet people?

Recommended Posts

Single again (i'm in my 40s now) and I currently investigating ways to meet new people. Someone told me about a Singles cruise. I'm curious about others people experience.

I'm also a busy professional and I can afford spending a little bit of money to meet someone. I'm also checking out a few other options such as elite matchmaking, its just lunch, ... etc. Please comment also, if you have experience with those. Would love to hear.

I created a profile on match, zoosk (not impressed really), I go out dancing, I run and do volunteer activities. Dating at work is not an option.

I just want to expand my reach a little bit, get out of my comfort zone to see if I can get lucky.

Let me know other options, if you have some in mind.

I'm not too fond on tinder, bumble, ...etc.

Singles cruises are not well attended by your age group. Revisit the issue in 20+ years.

More importantly do you really want an LTR?

I recommend doing a variety of things to meet people. Network for your business & see who's at the local Chamber or Commerce events. Try niche singles events that do things you enjoy: ski, hike, drink beer, play board games, sip wine, etc. I enjoyed one where I could bring my dog. I signed up to play golf thinking that 9 holes was still going to be a fun round even if it isn't a love connection.

there is a very small pool of singles in your age range, most are married or in a relationship

LTR is better than none !!! I don't want to absolutely limit myself by the distance and of course, it also depends on the distance. I have a job, where I can work remotely as well. So, I don't see it as an absolute deal breaker.

I recommend joining a club or group that interests you, I met my husband at the club I joined and we've had several other romances bloom around us within the club.

Depends if you are picky. What I am looking for simply doesn't exist in my age group so I gave up.

Do not give up. I was a 39 year old never been married woman when I met my now husband.

40ish just isn't the easiest age to meet somebody. It's easier as a man then a woman. If you have disposable income to spend on achieving the goal, you are ahead of the curve.

Have standards but be flexible about who meets them. It's OK to say that you want a financially independent younger woman with a good sense of humor who values loyalty but you can't really say you will only date a 25 year old, never been married, no kids woman, who is x feet & inches tall, who weights 125 pounds, has a C cup, this particular hair color & has a GPA of 3.y+ from an ivy league school.

I think a singles' cruise will get you a good time. I also think that a local connection will get you a lasting relationship. Happy hunting. A well to do 40 year old male is still in a better position then his female counterpart.

Thanks for the good answers. Will definitely not give up. I' m really planning to do this cruise, even if it is only for the experience. Seems like it is going to be lots of fun.

As far as cruises, look into the special interest cruises and see if there's anything you have an interest in so maybe you'd meet someone you had something in common with. Like recently the ID true crime show Homicide Hunter is sending some of its actors and its detective to do one of those cruises and be the special guests. They have authors, just all kinds of things.

Understand on a boat of 3000+ people there may be 10-20 singles & they won't all be in your age range. Due to the extra money you get charged booking a solo cabin, cruising as a single person is cost prohibitive. If the ad says $799 pp + tax & port charges you have to pay almost $1700 plus $15 per day in gratuities ($105). Drinks on board are extra & so are excursions. Check out the various message boards that are dedicated to cruising. You will find lots of helpful info about cruising there.

Do use a reputable company that specializes in singles cruises.

Thanks to all for the valuable info. The cruise I'm interested in are organized by vacations to go. They seem to organize lots of these.

I have been reading all the reviews online and doing tons of research.

Since being single again, I just feel that I have to learn the game again. So, I need to be placed in a room with lots of singles to speed up that process. My expectations are quite low, but I believe it is about the learning experience and the comfortability with the process. The alternative is for me to go on vacation by myself ... isn't that great? duh !!!

I have called the cruise and ask them about the average age for those who have signed up so far. It seems a little higher than my age, but not by much. I will be calling again to check in a few days.

Any other questions you think I might ask them, when I call?

I have booked regular cruises through VTG. I have always been satisfied. Once there was a problem but they made it up to me later so I was pleased with the customer service.

Do read your cruise contract. Remember they can & will divert the ship in the event of bad weather.

What kind of club? I’m finding online dating to be torturous, it would be good to know.

I joined a naturist club, it's not for everybody....but there are lots of different types of club you could try, it just depends what interests you. Sports, music, dance, boating, hiking, fishing even toastmasters or young Rotarians.
