How to protect my daughter's half sister?

Recommended Posts

My daughter called again, and we're calling again today.

Last night my daughter picked up her sister for 4 days. As soon as her sister got in the car she said her mom's bf wants to buy guns and they all go live in the woods because the end of the world is near! She also told my daughter he lives there full time and he gave child protection a fake address cause he knows he's not allowed to live under the same roof as a 14 year old. Her little-sister agreed if she sees any guns in the house or anyone is preparing to escape from the city to call 911 and my daughter. I am afraid we will have to go at war with this one.

This makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! I would call CFS, and if they do nothing I would go to the police ... this is frightening! It is most definitely time to go to war and I would not stop calling until I get the appropriate response. Good luck Greta. This child is blessed to have you and your daughter in her life, looking out for her when her mother obviously can not do it...

Do you think it makes sense to inform her school so that the teachers can notify the police in case anything suspicious happens? For example, he might pick her up in school...

You may be able to make the call and share the information, but the school won’t likely speak with you unless hey have the consent of her mother. Normally, they probably wouldn’t... but, because this is a child protection issue... things get a little more vague depending on the provincial laws.

If you make the call to the shook, they should be mandated to report to CFS as well which may not be a bad thing.

We wouln't be able to do that. The school would call her mother and he could go against us for 'defamation'. We are not even allowed to tell the child about his past. We can't tell his neighbors with children. These monsters are protected.

It's just a matter of couple of days for my daughter to call back child protection, we will try the police again. He is breaking his conditions and that's the business of the law.

My daughter is full time with her sister till Sunday so she doesn't have the free time to contact both of them. Till Sunday she may get more details from her sister as well. She is also planning to speak with the child's big brother. He's 21, lives with his dad while in college, a very grounded young man. He needs to get involved at this point.

Why is it defamation when these are public records? I assume he has to register as sex offender, no?

It's not public where I live. Their identity is protected.

“My daughter googled him and found out this man came out of jail in 2015 for sexually molesting an 11 years old (daughter of his gf at the time) and for sexually assaulting a 15 year old, just a kid he attacked in the streets. He is also forbidden to be alone around minors for the rest of his life.”

This seems pretty public.

It was an article written in a newspaper that we found, later child protection confirmed the information in the newspaper were accurate. The Canadian sex offenders registry is only for the police to use during investigation. Public don't have access to it.

That's good, I'm sure he is not excited with the thought to go back to jail.

Also good he thinks his sister called child protection - I'd be worried for your daughter if he start suspecting her.

I've had unfortunate experiences with people on the verge of the law (notably an exbf I wrote here before, the one stealing from me) and the thing that keep them going is lack of visibility. They entertain people that are socially isolated like I was back then and seems like the mother of the girl is. I think when it gets too uncomfortable for him (too much visibility) he'd leave on his own...

Yes child support and the police gave us all the details.

Funny you say that. When we called child support the first time they were living 3 hours away. Shortly after we learn they had moved about 1 hour away from us. Good for my daughter so now she can go get her more often and keep her longer. He can run anywhere he wants his 'offenders' file follows him. We've learn he thinks his sister called child protection on him. He doesn't suspect my daughter. This guy must be BAD if his own sister is chasing him down through child protection!

since she can't inform the school maybe she can try to have the girl "emancipated". that way she can live with her brother.

In any scenarios like this she would live with my daughter. Her brother is only 22 and full time student still dependent of his father.

I called child protection myself tonight. The woman was so outraged she wanted to send the police to pick him up on the spot! He's out of the province on a job right now we know he's not in the house. She read his file while I was on the phone and she kept saying omg omg. She asked if my daughter or I could take the child if it comes down to removing her from her home and we said yes, in heart beat.

The lady asked for my daughter to call her right after my call. I am staying up till I get more news, noway I can fall asleep.

Police and child protection took her out of her home this afternoon!! My daughter is on her way to get her at their office. There was a bit of back and forth if they were going to give her to me or my daughter but finally opted for the closest emotionally so of course it's my daughter.

Everything went pretty quick after we involved the investigator that put him in jail. We have learn during that process he had been in jail previous to 2015 twice for sexual assault in 1997 and 2011. The investigator told them he's dangerous.

So they called my daughter to pick her up at their center assuming she'd want to be with her the most. Turns out when they asked her if she wanted to go stay with her sister or me she said she would like to come to my home. Of course I am happy to keep her as long as needed. I have a full house tonight, my daughter took a couple of days off to be with her. The social worker told us it's better to have someone with her the first 24 hours. She cannot contact her mother either, they said the mom turned histerical and they don't want the child exposed to that.

Surprisingly the little one got here with a smile on her face when she saw me. We gave each other a big hug, she said 'looks like I am back again' (she was visiting just last week) I said she is welcome in my home anytime and as long as she wishes it's my pleasure to have her.

They're playing nintendo and laughing right now as i write this. She will be just fine :-)

Hi Gaeta,

I've read through your thread and reading this outcome, I feel so pleased for you and your daughter and her half-sister. The way you all took affirmative action and didn't choose the easy way out of just leaving things be, as so many would, is so amazing. Very happy on the positive outcome, I'm rooting for you all! :)

Thank you all for your kind words.

The mom layered up and is contesting child protection decision. We are due in court tomorrow morning. It will be the child decision. Little one has already decided she wants to stay here so her mom gets asap therapy.

Any update Gaeta? How are the girls doing today?

Has the mother calmed herself and regained her good sense?

We must have posted the same time.

Lets call her Claire. She is doing very good, she is so mature and grounded for her age. Child protection offered her mom a deal. Claire stays with me for 30 days and she (the mom) gets extensive therapy during those days. If she disagrees she needs to go to court and claim custody of her child. That is what she has decided to do. The good news is the Child has veto in the matter. Tomorrow in court all Claire has to do is tell her lawyer she wants the 30 day deal and the matter is closed. Claire doesn't even have to enter the court room she only need to advise her lawyer of her wish.

When the police and child protection got her at her home yesterday morning Claire told the police every little thing with no hold back. She said she was scared of him, that she spent her nights awake afraid he'd get in her room or do something like take them away in the woods, she told them her mom had her wear large t-shirts to hide her body from him, she was not allowed to wear anything form fitting in fear he'd get aroused, and the list goes on.

We're a bit nervous but I am almost certain she is coming back home with me tomorrow.

Oh, I think she is coming home with you...

I can not fathom how a mother could put her child at risk in that way. I think it speaks volumes that she turned down the deal, refused the therapy.

I’m glad the child does not have to testify. It’s nice that the court will respect her wishes.

You are a blessing to this child. Best wishes.

Is this all happening in a state where sex offenders are required to register their location every time they move for the rest of their lives? Has the mother had to testify before the judge yet to explain why she allowed a known sex offender into her home when there was a teenage girl there? And why she had the young lady wear baggy t-shirts? (This is almost too outrageous to be true.)
