ww
I don`t know where to post this . So I will just post it here. I am terrified of flying. In short time I will have to depart from europe to Usa. My flight is booked with Delta airlines. Can someone tell me is that company safe to fly with? I am scared to death. And I already go nuts just of thought of it.
bluechocolate
I don't know anything about Delta - I'm sure they're safe. I know it's not Delta, but British Airways (at least they used to) offer a short course for people afraid of flying. Have you flown before?
Author ww
I did and a lot of times too . Mostly short flights in Europe . And it was a big trauma every time. ( from Irelnd to England I `ve got a panic attack ) This time I have a short flight ( an hour and half ) and than the big one ( 8 hours ) I already got me pills for sleeping. But still I am already hyper nervous every day more and more .
bluechocolate
Well if you've flown loads of times before & you're still in one piece then by your own experience you now it's safe. You have to find a way to stop escalating those scary thoughts into hyper nervousness. I know that doesn't help. Have a search on the web for "fear of flying" or "aviophobia" & "support" - there are support & discussion groups out there. Bon voyage.
JS17
I've flown Delta many many many times. It's one of the largest airlines here. Did you know flying is actually safer than driving?!?! Have a great trip

The pilot wants to live. Other than that if you could talk to a pilot or flight instructor in person and find out just how safe and strong aircraft are I don't think you'd have the same level of fear from flying. I'm also a private pilot, I fly for fun (you must think I'm crazy huh?) and when I first started flying I was a little concerned about safety. I spent a lot of time researching and learning. I must have read literally hundreds of NTSB accident reports on everything from the small fixed wing experimental craft to the large commercial jet aircraft. Based on my research and experience I'd have to say that flying is extremely safe. Millions of people fly, thousands of people make their career in the sky and we only hear about the accidents because they are so rare. The more you can learn about what goes on during a flight, the sounds, the vibratons, the little bumps, the different kinds of turbulence, the strength of the aircraft, the required maintenance, the training of the entire crew, the support people on the ground, the better you'll feel. Tiggerlove
I've flown overseas before on Delta and made it back in one piece. Delta is a very nice airline to fly, and plenty of room. Just be sure to take your pills and relax. Once you're in the air, just sleep. I'm sure you'll wake up while still up there, so make sure you take a book or something to keep your mind off of the ride. You'll be just fine. Also, just to reassure yourself, ask for one of your friends to hold your hand during take-off and during landing if you need. Having someone you know help you get through a fear helps a lot. When its time to go back home, you'll be dreading the flight---but only because its long and boring, not because you're scared. Once you conquer a fear, more often than not you feel like you can get through anything. I hope you have a nice visit and enjoy your flights.
