A man compliments your blouse?

Recommended Posts

I didn't hear it the first time. he had to repeat it again.

I sometimes get compliments from women about my clothing, but from a man? rarely.

I don't really know the person, but he has been very friendly and chatty in the work place.

Just wonder how usual is it to get this kind of compliments from the opposite sex?

Strangely enough, my boss notices these kinds of things and will sometimes make comments... It is definitely well intended, but feels so awkward given the fact that he is married and has the ability to hire and fire.

I think it depends on the individual and delivery. I can picture two very different versions of that compliment, one appropriate, the other not.

It's not something I'd say in today's climate...

The thing is I don't even know his marital status. and he sure I am single? if not...that will be doubly inappropriate.

I suppose this man has the ability to hire...but probably not fire (as it's in the gov. I heard it's hard to fire?) as his a manager of some sort, but no of my team.

Did it bother you that he said it?

I don't know. Just feel weird. I don't really recall any opposite gender compliments my dress in my life.

He has made me wonder if he has a thing for me for a while but I probably just think too much and too sensitive.

anyhow, it doesn't matter. I am not attracted in that way.

Life is funny....the guy I am attracted to hasn't even said hello to me. and this one calls my name every time I see him. They seem to work in the same area.

Eh, when I dress up for meetings my male boss and male sales guy usually say something “that’s a really sharp outfit” “you look good” “that’s a great color for you”.

I get the same sorts of comments from my female coworkers. I make an attempt to hand out compliments to both male and female coworkers of the same tone “look at you! Great outfit”.

It doesn’t bother me at all, but we are also a tight knit group with clear boundaries.

Never did it before #metoo, certainly wouldn't do it now...

I see guys do this type of stuff and it just makes me cringe...I dunno...I don't think there is anything wrong with it, its just not my style..

For most of my life I never ever did this and I don't do it for my staff as theres a line between staff and boss which I consciously never cross.

But for colleagues and general folk, nowadays, I'll pay compliments when something catches my eye. I do it reasonably often actually. But its completely benign, at least in my mind. I learned in my late 40's how to give 'gifts' without any attached strings, this is a general rule, and applies to words as well ... words can be gifts.

The key is to be genuine and without a hint of 'fishing'. I don't expect or require an answer (key to true gift giving) and it has to be real. If someone doesn't look good, I won't make a comment. For a guy or girl who has obviously put in an effort, or has made a recent change to their style, I'll often make comment. Its short, its truthful and it doesn't lead to anything more than what it is.

People often randomly compliment me as well, not as a result of me opening such a conversation, and I take those with a genuine "thank you", but again, I don't take that as a conversation starter and pursue it. These things are small gifts, to be given or accepted as the case may be without building them into something else.

Some gay men have an eye for fashion. The men who are not gay, when they try to comment on women's articles of clothing they often reveal they don't know what they're talking about.

Sometimes a compliment is just a compliment. Say thank you & move along without giving it a 2nd thought.

If the compliment was meant as an ice break & the speaker wants more, that person will follow up. If at that point you are not interested, change the subject or go back to work. There are ways to dissuade somebody without disrupting office harmony. If the person doesn't get the hint then you can be more blunt.

But as to the compliment alone, that happens. Just say thank you.

To me a guy commenting on a woman's blouse is akin to saying "Nice Tits"

Maybe it's just me but I would never comment on a women's clothes...

I usually compliment the shoes, especially if she's wearing a sexy pair.

Yeah, but, you know, if your well endowed and not shy of that fact, then why be shy when someone notices?

Its not the same, but is somewhat analogous, I go to the gym and have some shape, I'm not shy about this ... in casual situations I wear form fitting clothes. If someone comments 'nice shirt', I know what that means ... it means 'nice shirt' .... and ... "it fits you well"

If you are an endowed woman wearing a nice blouse and your curves are showing then a comment on your blouse is almost certainly going to be a comment on both the cloth and how it looks on you .... whether that comment comes from a man or from a woman.

If I were not comfortable with my shape I'd wear a smock.

So much depends on context. A single innocuous comment should not be overthought in my view. If a guy has been staring at your chest for a week and then comments one day on your blouse whilst staring lewdly at your cleavage ... well, fair enough, be cautious and draw that invisible line in the sand by way of your response.... otherwise, just say thanks and enjoy the fact that someone likes your style and yes, maybe even your shape.

Lol like others said - he wasn't referring to the blouse but to what's underneath. Some men are very much into boobs, I'm thinking most men, but I'm yet to meet a heterosexual man who cares about women's fashion (besides clothes exposing the assets :D)

My son is heterosexual and has always had an interest in fashion and hair, even as a 5 year old he told me he liked the "pinstripes" in my hair (highlights) and he always notices if I wear something new. So there are men out there that do notice these things, 2 of my male workmates, commented on my new shoes last week...both these guys have shoe obsessions though!!
