Why is she mad?

Recommended Posts

A bit of a necessary backstory:

I’m a 17 year old highschool student, and i’ve been in a relationship with a classmate of mine for almost 3 years. Truth be told I think she’s too good for me, she’s really pretty, And she really, really loves me, to the point I sometimes question why i’ve been so blessed with someone like that. Almost all of my guy friends have expressed their *cough* envy*cough* towards me XD, and wanted something close to “what I had”.

The Situation:

About 3 days ago, we were on our way back from school, we took a detour to get some ice cream. So we ran into someone , a guy from my girlfriend’s middle school. He was really polite, and most of all, really hot looking for a guy lol. so I gave them some space to catch up while I went to get ice cream. I was standing in a short queue and I was watching them as they talk, my girlfriend’s facial expressions, his’s, couldn’t help but feel like they looked “ideal” together. So my girlfriend joins me in the queue after their short 2 minute talk, guy is gone. Now here’s where I ****ed up.

When she got back we had this conversation:-

Me: back so soon, thought you’d stay some more with your friend *jokingly*

Her: Noo I wanted to get here as fast as possible *she was all smiley*

Me: that guy looked hot tho, you looked good together.

*silence*

Her: do you really think so?

Me: yeah

Her: why?

Me: idk that guy was polite and good looking, plus I always do tell you “I’m unworthy of such cuteness” *ive always said it in a flirty, complimentary way before so I don’t really blame her for not thinking that’s what I meant literally*

Her: *she looks at me weirdly, then gets mad* i’m going home, and she just walks off.

We haven’t talked in 2 days ever since, and she’s been looking down and has been actively ignoring me? She hasn’t even told any of her friends *i wish she did least i’d know she isn’t keeping it bottled up* and i’m feeling kind of guilty for making her get this upset even thought I don’t exactly understand what caused her to get mad.

Am I missing something? I genuinely have no clue why she’s this upset, also was it so wrong of me to express how I felt at the time.

The only thing I can think of is that she thought you were trying to pawn her off on someone else. Most guys wouldn’t even dream of making such a comment because they would be too afraid that she’d leave. You seem to have no such concern. Telling someone that you have low self-esteem probably isn’t the smartest move, either.

Well I doubt she’s thinking I’m pawning her off, We hardly knew the guy. Low self esteem however , I do have some of those negative thoughts, but is it really insulting to hear someone feel like that about themselves? I just am surprised I guess. I’ve been trying to put myself in her shoes ,but I still can’t see myself being this upset ,or even having that reaction.

I don’t understand her reaction either. I’m just guessing. Don’t take the word ’pawn’ so literally. She may have gotten the impression that you’re tired of her.

Oh... that makes so much sense, I can def see how she’d see it as an me getting tired of her. Damn.

Thanks a lot man, i’ll go patch it up right now and apologize, didn’t apologize yet because I didn’t want to apologize without meaning it and/or comprehending it.

You’re a life saver.
