Bitten by a biting fly 3 wks ago.......

i was bit by a black fly or stable fly, almost 3 weeks ago. i was at the Zoo, and was bit on the outer left leg, right above my ankle.

the bite hurt, it gave me chills, brought a tear to my eye, and was bleeding slightly. After only a minute the site of the bite had swelled to the size of a grape and was blue.

 

i went to the first aid station, where i was givein some cortizone. it did not itch, but was just painful.

 

a few hours later the swelling was down, but my leg was still bruised. The bruising then spread across most the lower half of my leg, extending over 5 inches from the bite site.

The veins in my legs were visible as they too were deep blue and bruised, it almost looked like track veins.

 

as i said this was 3 weeks ago, i have not notice any ill feelings that were "out of the ordinary". But my lower leg still aches, and still has some dark blue bruising. The ache is not as bad as it was, it feels more like a pressure inside my leg, but with an achy sensation.

 

Any comments would be extremely helpful, Thanks!

I would say you're allergic, especially if it was a black fly bite. I won't go up North to the cottage until Black Fly's are gone as I got bit one early summer and had a huge reaction. I swelled up and not right away. For weeks I thought something serious was wrong with me, my glands in my throat were big and I felt fatigued. Finally went and got it checked out and it was an allergy.

 

Go see your doc, get them to check you out and do a round of blood tests, just to be safe.

I agree with Whichway. You need to see your doctor if just to reassure you that it will be alright.

There are a couple potentially serious conditions which have those symptoms. Absolutely get to a doctor ASAP and check this out.

LOL....... actually i bashed my knee the next day and had a huge knot on it.....so i figured i would throw a blood clot and stroke out, but my knee just hurts, so amputation is not that bad an idea!

is that the same thing as a horsefly? i had been bitten by one, and it was pretty bad, although the symptoms stopped way before 3 weeks time.

 

i would definitely get it looked at, though i think you already said you would, so in that case---good luck!
