thefooloftheyear
It was an ad for a football channel. Yes, some women like football but the support is overwhelmingly male... I was only referring to the commercial where he was photographed in his bvd's outside the hotel room...The rest of the video showing other commercials was unintentional...They showed that commercial by itself here in the states on a variety of channels/shows, and almost no one cares about soccer here-yes, I said soccer..... somanymistakes
Afaik, Cristiano Ronaldo has no tattoos. Intentionally. (The actual reason is because he donates blood for charity, apparently) But that commercial is overall doing the clean-cut look I was talking about being popular with many women. No glasses or book, no, but clean-shaven, not tattooed, not ridiculously over-muscled. http://www.gettattoosideas.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/tattooed-men-9.jpg This sort of guy, I'm sure has fans who find him very attractive, but in MY facebook circles women would generally avoid that. Again I'm definitely not saying no women anywhere would post and drool over that guy, but if you're going to argue that 100% of the women you know would, it's equally fair for me to say that 0% of the women I know would!
somanymistakes
as for my personal tastes i find some guys with muscles attractive and some other guys with muscles not attractive, it depends on the guy, his overall looks, exactly HOW muscular he is, etc. like, have you seen arnold schwarzenegger when he won mr universe? he's got muscles but I do not find him appealing at all. and that is certainly not sour grapes!
Kitty Tantrum
I had a pretty strong preference for the nerdy types when I was younger. A big part of that for me is that I've always been kind of a nerd myself (IQ clocked well north of genius territory in my youth, and consistently 99th percentile in academic ranking/performance with very little actual effort) and the simple truth is that most of the "jock" types were uninteresting, no matter how objectively pretty they were. I couldn't connect with them. My main physical criteria in looking for a mate was that he had to be bigger and taller than me (I'm 5'4" so that's not hard to find) and not disfigured or possessed of any notable hereditary abnormalities. An out-of-shape nerd with decent genetic potential and the capacity to relate to me on an intellectual level was pretty much my ideal (a strategy which produced a couple of VERY handsome and intelligent sons; it's impossible for me to regret having children with my ex-husband even though he ended up not treating me very well). Men who are highly intelligent AND fall into the classically "hot" category (big muscles, low body fat, visible abs, etc.) have always been intimidating. It's not that I didn't think I could get one, it's just that there's something about a person who puts that kind of time and effort into their appearance that makes me question their priorities and their ability to settle into the sort of life that I want to live. I could be pretty darn "hot" if I was willing to put in the time and effort. I've been there briefly, and found I prefer being healthy and fit but relatively plain looking, and directing that extra time and energy (and money) into other things. Like raising children. I can't imagine having a good relationship long-term with a man who prioritizes his physical appearance to the extent that is typically necessary to maintain that sort of exceptionally attractive physique for any length of time (constantly going to the gym, counting every calorie, shelling out $$$ on supplements/steroids/whatever). It's far from an ideal allocation of resources, in my book. My fiancé is big and strong and muscular in a stocky, ruggedly handsome sort of way, with just a little extra padding, so no visible abs. He has the body of a man who works hard and spends a lot of time outdoors and doesn't turn down dessert. I like it that way. He's also plenty nerdy for me.
littleblackheart
Using an advert (ie a social conditioning tool used to influence the general public) to illustrate the taste of 'women' is like using a dailymail article as an academic reference. Reasons to appreciate Ronaldo (pre-sexual assault claim) besides his muscles include his rags-to-riches background, his work ethics and his skills - he's not exactly a random muscular guy with low body fat. The point is, OP - if you want to bulk up (or not), do it for you, not to attract women. Be a good person all round, be comfortable with who you are, and the rest will follow.
elaine567
Brandon Lee in that picture is also exhibiting some great genetics... full eight pack of muscles visible with perfect symmetry, high pectoral insertions, long biceps. My point is, 90% of guys would not ever be able to look like that, no matter how they trained or what they ate. ^^ This is a good point. Genetics plays a big role in producing "gorgeousness" and "desirability". Symmetry is a big deal.
carhill
IME, women my age still gush over the young hardbodies. Can't say I blame them. Who doesn't like to ride a young pedigreed stallion? I happen to have one who's a friend, though he's now married with a baby due shortly and it was a pure pleasure watching him own all the women in the room. Someone who was that gorgeous and straight, whoa, married and single alike. He's also a darned smart naildriver and businessman too. Anyway, no slippage that I can see in my neck of the woods, though less focus in the Beaver state than in CA. CA is all about image and status. Not an indictment, just reality. I can't speak for others, but I find this compulsion to insist that 'all', 'most', 'a vast majority' etc of women find muscular men attractive to be grating. It's based on a combination of wishful thinking and social conditioning, from what I can tell. Good for these guys for being born that way, I guess. It just means they have even less merit then, doesn't it, if no effort comes into it... It's also super odd to continuously amalgamate having muscles with being fit or being attractive or being partner material. It's just not the case. Anyway. OP, don't worry; there will be women who will appreciate the person that you are with or without muscles, as long as you are of healthy body and mind.

loversquarrel
If that's the case I guess I should consider myself lucky to have been able to date women who still find a muscular athletic type attractive, but then again I am so much more than my body....
Andy_K
Interesting thing on Ronaldo though... he's super desirable to women despite clearly exhibiting all the negative traits mentioned in this thread that are associated with muscular guys - he is incredibly vain (has had multiple plastic surgeries and spends a good amount of time tanning), and spends more of his time working out & weightlifting than most bodybuilders. For all his muscles, he has virtually no-one drooling over him, mainly because he is an entitled, self-absorbed, condescending twat. He's neither attractive, healthy-looking or fit, imo. He is also a well-respected academic in his field, with a very good salary...
Kitty Tantrum
I think what it comes down to is that having an exceptional physique is one of many things that can net a man a greater amount of opportunity with women when properly leveraged, and can yield a greater amount of success in terms of sexual conquests. But it's not going to compensate long-term for having an insufferable personality. Kinda like being exceptionally charismatic and personable can open doors with women... but ultimately won't make up for being a lazy slobby blob with poor hygiene. When money and fame enter the picture, most women are willing to put up with more negative qualities. A guy like Ronaldo would lose a lot of his widespread appeal if he had the same looks and personality but none of the fame and fortune. Similar thing with mugshot guy. He wasn't rubbing elbows with any wealthy heiresses until he suddenly became famous. Based on his looks alone, he's not that special. Using famous men as a yardstick to measure what women find desirable in terms of physical appearance doesn't really work, because it's not really their appearance that makes them attractive to most of the women who are drooling over them.

Here's why this is bullcrap...(bolded)_ The reality is thousands of mugshots floating around...No one cares...This guys did, evidently....So the looks are what created the fame and fortune(btw the mugshot guy is only mildly famous and broke)...You make it sound like the other way around....I mean if you want to tell me a guy like Seth Rogen gets a lot of hot women because he's a famous actor, then I will buy that... My 75 year old mother doesn't know crap about soccer and wouldn't know who Ronaldo even plays for...She mentioned on several occasions how handsome he is..Mostly from seeing that commercial.. eleanorrigby
Guys like hot mugshot guy are a curiosity. He has a nice face and a decent body, but it’s ruined by the prison tats, the grill, and most importantly the convicted felon status. How many of you guys would still be into J-lo if she had a tramp stamp with an arrow pointing to her rear and the words “stick it here”? Looks are important, but they don’t take precedence over everything . I love a hot body and handsome face, but that can’t be the only thing a guy has going for him. Which puts some nerdy intellectual skills in a good place, they’ve got great starting material that has staying power. All they need to do is improve on their looks and fitness if those are lacking. Most of us aren’t looking for a guy who could win Mr.Olympia. For many of us, a body like that looks just as gross as this body might look to the men.
