It sounds like he's feeling better and things are looking up! Maybe they will let him out soon.

You are wonderful for being there for him. He is going to remember this.

Today, he had a bit of a fit. Ste controlled it. The doctors are trying to argue its because of his "over stimulation" yesterday. Ste turned round and said "Well I know it wasn't the same sort of fit, I remember it all. If you stop messing with my medication and let me home I'd be ok. But you know if you want to play it like Boeing I'm up for that."

This doctor was horrible, didn't know Ste or his case, said it was my fault?!? (apparently we had "relations" we haven't, I mean I'd like to with my husband but we agreed not till he is better). As soon as this doctor said that Ste interrupted him and said "Who do you think you are? Speaking to my wife like that. In fact what sort of doctor are you?"

He identifies himself as a junior doctor, Ste turns round and says "right listen, You are going to apologise to my wife. Oh and get your boss. I only talk to the head hauncho". The doctor storms out. I turn round to Ste (and Rehannon one of the nurses who really knows Ste was there smiling) and try and tell him off and say "Look do you want to be thrown out?" Ste goes "get him back then. Lets make sure they pay for the uber".

The consultant comes, apologises and says he shouldn't have said anything of the sort.

A while after the Rehannon brought us some cakes, apparently they didn't like that doctor and Ste standing up to him has made all the nurses day.

You know this is the first time I've seen the old Ste back. I loved it.

We've realised this is going to be a lot longer. We've made the decision together for me to go back to work. Ste's also said if I want to go Ireland for Easter he will book me a flight. I kind of want to spend it with him in the hospital.

I need a rant,

Ste had a social worker come to see him today. She opened with "I'm from social services" Ste replied "You didn't care about me for 31 years lets not break the habit of a life time." She carries on saying "I'm here to talk about you leaving on Sunday to go for lunch together". Ste said "I went out with my wife. I don't need social services trying to interfere. you have never given a damn don't pretend now"

She blames me for delaying his release by taking him out, Really had a go. Ste put her straight but it was really upsetting.

Did they provide any explanation for why getting Ste out (even just temporarily) was detrimental to his recovery? Was he required to be hooked to some medical instruments or closely monitored constantly?

Apparently he told the nurses. The doctor said he could have been drinking alcohol or getting high.

Ste turned round and said "I have some hefty clearance at airports and such. The closest I get to being high is when I'm on a plane. The strongest drink I've had is full fat coke."

They also said he had missed his blood pressure being taken if he was asleep they wouldn't do it.

Unfortunately things can be very bureaucratic, as they don’t want to be held responsible in case bad things happen.

I feel they went to far with me. If they was pleasant we'd have answered. Ste has been asleep and missed blood pressure checks and nothing was said.

Ste said its social worker 101.

He needed the time away more than he needed his blood pressure taken. omg, what a lame excuse!

They could’ve at least blamed it on germ exposure or something.

You know that would have been believable. Ste pointed out he is on a general ward with all sorts so he would have come back with that. Apparently his blood pressure monitoring is important.

They've also said me and his best friend have lead Ste away from getting better. This social worker was horrible.

I thought you were applying for getting him out a few hours couple of days ago? Did they not approve? Why did you have to sneak out without their knowledge? I understand how frustrated your husband (and you) must have been. But they’re just trying to do their jobs. The system (public healthcare, social services) is by definition very bureaucratic.

They are still considering it.

We didn't sneak our per say. We told the nurses, the doctors got annoyed.

Generally the NHS is not bureaucratic. The reason is Ste's past. They don't trust him to look after himself.

Shauna, that makes little sense. By all accounts, he is a grown man capable of caring for himself, holding a job, and establishing a relationship. What makes them think that he will not be able to take care of himself - because of his past? How is it that you didn’t even know about his past before a few weeks ago and now all the sudden, it affects everything.

The decisions of hospital staff can most definitely be influenced by hospital bureaucracy, risk management, and a desire to provide the best care... but, this need to be balanced with quality of life. If it is safe for him to leave the hospital, they should be able to let him have a pass. They may just need some gentle encouragement...

I'm over thinking to be honest. I'm thinking the worst.

Its all about the type of cancer he has.

Any updates on his prognosis?

They have said based on other cases no more than a year, if he passes that it will be no more than 5 years.

If his tumour starts shrinking thats a really good sign

Nervous about going back :(

I know you don't want to be away from him, but going to work might take your mind off things for a while. It might actually be good for you.

Have they said anything more about when he can go home?
