I dont want to give up drinking though because that is like the only thing to do in this town. Anyone got any suggestions
Naive
How about exercise?
Blackfrost
Exercise will definitely help. As for giving up drinking, that really depends on what your end fitness goal is. 25lbs is alot to lose. You can either keep drinking and exercising, and lose it over a handful of months, or quit drinkingm eat healthy, exercise, and lose it much much quicker. Again, it depends on what you consider to be your timeline, and your highest priority.

If you absolutely don't want to give up drinking while losing the weight, remember some choices are better than others. For example Vodka is better than Beer or Wine. Technically, plain alcohol - hard liquor - is carb-free. While Beer and Wine contain larger quantities. You could also try a 'Light' or Low Carb Beer instead. But the best advice is Blackfrost's - give it up while you're losing weight.
ReluctantRomeo
Technically, plain alcohol - hard liquor - is carb-free. But not calorie free - alcohol is a sugar. And it plays a little with your metabolism, thus increasing the effect of other calories you eat.

Tiny Dancer
When I need to loose weight I increase my protein intake and reduce the carbs (read..carb. intake = almost none). Avoid white bread when you can or reduce it at least. (For instance a double burger would then be a better choice than 2 regular ones. ) I keep dried beef in the fridge for a quick snack (because it's as easy to grab as chips or such) and I increase the amount of hot spice I eat. (Hot banana peppers are usually available at salad bars and such if I'm out and for a spicy snack I use the little dill pickles that have hot sauce added to them... they're also great for satisfying the need to CRUNCH something! ) Oh yeah, I always have a bottle of water with me because it keeps me full and consequently deters my drinking or eatting other things. As for alcohol, I don't drink that much anyway but when I do I choose Michelob Ultra for beer and single malt scotch if I want something stronger. I've also found that Nutrasweet works better than other sugar subs. for loosing weight. (That means that with the recent re-formulation of PepsiOne that Coke Zero is now a better choice in that department.) I've seen tremendous results with people who use Sugar Busters as a diet. It's rather quick for the first 5-10 lbs but then the weight loss slows. I'm horrible at depriving myself so I don't use any particular strict diet. I do better with "tricking" my body. Thus the increased protein - so I don't get hungry, and hot pepper for tingling and satisfying my taste buds. That also means that protein for breakfast is an absolute necessity. Skip the cereal and choose a double sausage biscuit instead. BTW, are you trying to do this for a specific reason or just for better health? Some diets are not good if there is a specific health concern. Good luck with it.
JS17
I don't have any other advice besides what has already been said but I have been having a really difficult time losing weight also. I gained 13 lbs from a medication that I went on over the summer (3 months) for my thyroid disease. I eat probably too healthy and exercise at the gym 3-5 days a week in addition to walking for 45min-1hr a day. I've struggled with my weight since I was a teenager always being between 10-35 lbs over what I clinically should be and I know how important it is to have support and know that you're not alone. Tons of people struggle with their weight and it's so frustrating. Just do the best you can, stay healthy, remember that genetics has a lot to do with your body structure, and that very few people are blessed with the body of a supermodel. Good luck
