norudder
So this is second hand but stories I hear give me further thoughts on what I'd be ok with and also make me wonder if I'm just super concious of boundaries now and maybe over sensitive and see it more or if there's really an abundance of people without boundaries and awareness. Married guy is at the dentist and some of the water sprays up. Female hygienist says something about getting a facial, guy giggles at the potential innuendo, female giggles and says it's a bit of a role reversal eh, guy giggles and says yep. Now to me, even if both are single in today's environment I think it's a risk and unprofessional to be flirting with customers. That aside, harmless banter and no big deal? I also think it's pretty overt and not exactly subtle when it's a sexual reference. Do you think the guy is not in wrong because it was the (presumably single) woman who turned it sexual or would he have been more appropriate to respond differently? Does it change anything if he was the one to comment on "role reversal"? If you're the guy's partner, and he shared the anecdote does that mean there's nothing to hide about it? I'm just thinking if I was this guy's partner how would I feel about that and want it handled, I'd be pretty uncomfortable with it but maybe I'd be hard pressed to find guys as I go along dating that would agree with my perspective. todreaminblue
yes it is unprofessional, unethical and inappropriate to make sexual comments at a place of work whether a customer is there or not.... and if the guys wife was there i doubt the hygienist would have said what she said.... which is my sort of boundary i guess is if a partner of either the sayer or the listener would be embarrassed or uncomfortable then whatever the comment is... especially sexually provocative comments...shouldnt be said at all...in a place of work or otherwise........deb
