Does it get on your nerves when women say they don’t need a man?

Recommended Posts

I don't kill spiders. I put them in my bug jar and take them outside. Now, snakes, I'd just call animal control. Even my paid handyman said he's terrified of snakes and don't do anything like yard work.

Given that most women who are murdered are murdered by a man they have had a relationship with, I don't see them as good protection over the long term. If I felt I needed protection because something was up, I'd get a few big dogs. But all I've needed are a couple little ones who catch rats and hear stuff I can't hear.

Like others have said, I just think of it as a cliché being used in a defensive way. Need can be in a number of different realms of course. I default to the emotional/connection when I hear them say that. My interpretation is that they've been wounded or heartbroken and have adopted this defense as an alternative to taking another chance on love. Often you'll see them say immediately afterward, "but I'd like to have a companion to [fill in an activity - go to dinner, watch a movie, etc.]. My reaction...

Phukk that bulls*t. I'm looking for someone who has transcended the defensiveness, done their inner work, and is able to acknowledge what all humans intrinsically want and need for fulfillment in life. We are wired for connection, and the deeper the better.

The last thing I want to do is get involved with someone who needs to hold me at arm's length because they don't have the courage or emotional maturity to be able to open their heart.
