Springsummer
A friend mentioned this film on the social media, so I googled it. I haven't watched it yet, but from what I read, it already makes me cry. How real is this film? for the life of me, I don't understand why they keep producing children that they can't raise? No sense of responsibility at all? meanwhile, there are beautiful and successful people who don't or want to have children. like Charlie Theron, Sander Bullock, Keanu Reeves, etc...and people in forum as they indicate in the 'deal breaker' thread. This world seems quite upside down. say what you will about China's one child policy(now two) or its basic dictatorship. I think that's the way to go. People can't just breed irresponsibility. Author Springsummer
are you saying that people should not have children? YES! if they can't raise the children. and even if they can, there should be some limit.
preraph
I think it's weird that both parties in the US strongly want people to have more children or more people to enter any way they can (Dems this year). Some of our programs are funded assuming a steady increase in population, but what they didn't figure is how many people would be taking rather than paying into it.
RecentChange
^^^ capitalizism relies on the working generation to support both the retired generation and the developing ones. We have this huge aging “boomer” class who is becoming an enormous burden on the generations that follow it - only those are dwindling in size, year by year (much impart because the economy created by the boomers does not support a family life). It’s going to be a serious issue for this country to solve. Japan is now experiencing it to the extreme. More adult diapers than baby are being sold. Workers to support older generations are not being created. Not that I think those are good reasons for new humans to be born - but that is why politicians push for it.
thefooloftheyear
Here is another thing to consider..... I am at the age now where all of our aunts and uncles are passing...In fact, my mom is the last one left......While this is unfortunate enough, thankfully my mom and her sisters had all of us to properly care for them...My mom recently had cancer treatments and there was always a family member there..She doesn't need to depend on others.. What will become of all these folks that have no children to assist them in their older years? I can imagine the burden that may be for many programs.. But yes....It does seem like the least prepared and financially capable are having all the kids now...The balance is heavily out of whack....moreso than I ever remember... preraph
^ Yes, but we boomers are exactly who has paid the most into this system and have a right to the proceeds. The problem is that we are allowing too many people to use it who have not paid in, on various type programs. That's where the waste is. If that wasn't happening, there wouldn't be a problem. Again, starts with controlling the border but there's plenty of other fat needs to be trimmed, like rewarding people who got on welfare with more money if they continue to have kids. We should be offering them birth control instead and warn them no more aid if they keep having kids they can't afford.

TFY With the entitled mindset of the kids or younger people in this generation, I wouldn’t count on them taking care of you like you did with your mother!
basil67
Limiting to one child is environmentally sustainable. But it's not economically viable. A large population decrease will mean insuffucient taxes to support society in it's current state. Also, given the lessons learned in China, I wonder why you'd consider it for a moment. All those girl babies disappearing..... It's horrendous.

todreaminblue
my ex who i live with feels the same way about starving africans breeding....i quote ....he feels they should not get any aid at all other than condoms if they keep breeding....we have never agreed on issues such as this.....he and his ten brothers were wards of the state.,.....if colin was never born.....he would not have saved three men's lives....i myself was supposed to be an abortion...i hope my life so far i have helped some people who needed help that no one but me could give them...i hope somehow i have made a difference....made my life nto such a burden on society considering .. I am on a carers pension paid by taxes of the working.... i feel its gods domain to say who is born and who is not.....who are we to judge lives that may become huge ripples in a small mill pond fanning out around the world....you never know what spirit is born into babes...they could be warriors or future groundbreaking heart surgeons saving this growing elderly population to live longer and more fulfilling lives.........and the world ...needs warriors..and heart surgeons...and even dishwashers....the world needs dish washers..... .even those born into poor crowded homes who rely on charity might make a difference to someone else by simply being...born.....there are countless childless couples out there who would fall to their knees at the simple thought of being able to adopt a child...maybe regulations around that might be easier the red tape not so tight and suffocating the dreams of the childless..... especially in the sense of unwanted children who the parents dont want or dont look after properly.......deb
Poutrew
Well, there is always the way portrayed in films such as 'Logan's Run', or 'Soylent Green', or just combine them for a mash up: Have the government feed the sheeple a lie and murder them in the name of glory, and then feed their bodies to the next generation of the living…
