Out of context, it's innocuous enough. IN context, my health was slowly deteriorating, and he chose to undermine me instead of supporting me when I expressed the desire to turn things around. I think TFY hit the nail on the head: it was about control, and not wanting me to be "better" than him in any quantifiable way. He also loved to tell me that I was SO lucky to have him and that nobody else would ever put up with me.

I get it. You had a man who was tempting you to stay in intstead of gym. Or to eat the huge dinner instead of being careful. The final sentence about being lucky to have him was certainly a final dealbreaker.

Talking with my daughter about this. One of her girlfriends is classically feminine: Thin, pretty, long blonde hair, makeup, cotton knee length dresses, 3-4 inch heels and super smart. She gets hit on by multiple men each time she goes out and is already in the middle of a sexual harassment complaint during her first year of work (dude with a girlfriend hitting on her constantly). If this is the outcome of being 'feminine', I can see this being a reason why some women choose not to present this way.

Unlike her feminine friend, my girl dresses like a goth/punk and is treated with far more respect by men.

@basil67.....

Eh...I dunno bout this...

I know women who are drop dead gorgeous/feminine, yet they have a certain edge to them that tells the world that they aren't to be treated poorly or objectified by their appearance...They don't get unwanted attention because their "force field" keeps those guys at bay...Many of my own female cousins fit this category...I think it may even be an ethnic trait..

Sure, there are ditzy and naïve women that don't understand how to navigate that part of their sexuality/femininity so they wind up getting hit on constantly and may even get themselves into compromised positions. But I don't think this is exclusively something that all attractive/feminine women succumb to...
