Springsummer
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/06/health/india-woman-73-gives-birth-scli-intl/index.html bawaha.........Gives hope to humanity. Everything is indeed possible. Some people said a woman after certain age shouldn't give birth even if she can conceive naturally because of the risk. Guess you can't just listen to people. Veronica73
WTF? Why would you do that? They are likely going to die before their kids are even teenagers.
CautiouslyOptimistic
Oh wow, when I first saw headline I assumed she was a surrogate for her child. That is so irresponsible, sorry to all the senior citizens here. I'm 46 and couldn't handle two newborns, let alone toddlers. Maybe they are very wealthy and have full-time nannies. And have already found good guardians if they die before the kids turn 18.
Veronica73
Also the line about the mother being more confident than she has ever been... sometimes I think self-confidence is over-sold. It’s not the end-all and be-all. I mean, what does that have to do with bringing two lives into the world. And she’s freaking 73 years old. Get over yourself.
RecentChange
How is a 76 year old going to chase two toddlers around? She has to live to 90 just to see them off to adulthood. I am sorry, but how is having twins at 73 anything but selfish?

alphamale
dayum! i'm gonna have to start using rubbers with these older women
elaine567
Apparently it is a growing trend in India. Older couples are taking advantage of the relative affordability compared to the West, of fertility treatments.

Author Springsummer
probably selfish and irresponsible... but I also see hope and possibilities from this story. who knows, maybe running after toddlers at 90 is not a problem for her, like giving birth at age 73. Just because we can not imagine it doesn't mean it's not possible. If she can give birth at 73, it's very possible she can live pass 100. We shouldn't be confined by conventional thinking and possibility.

Veronica73
I think of rubbers as those things businessmen put over their nice shoes in the winter to protect them from snow, ice, and salt.

But when it involves other people’s lives, that you are responsible for...it’s a big gamble.... and seems incredibly selfish. And it’s not like we don’t have enough people in the world. We shouldn't be confined by conventional thinking and possibility. Well..... Define "give birth" they said that due to her age she would not have a natural birth, but rather cesarean section followed by 21 days of hospitalization. Also that she would not be able to breast feed. I think ethics also matter, there are many things that are possible with the help of science, but it doesn't mean that they should be done. elaine567
Sounds all very sad really, 57 years of waiting for a child... Had it all been available when they were young they would have jumped at the chance, but it wasn't...
major_merrick
Having kids past 40 is just nuts. I'm gonna stop by 40... If I live to 60, I'll have all of mine launched and then I can die in peace.
Poutrew
All the friends the kid invites over to play will be wondering why their friend is living with great grandma and what happened to mom and granny... On a positive note, she's probably at the age where she is starting to use incontinence products herself so taking care of two extra hineys will be no added stress... Sam2020
sigh...woman and man are so hugely and inherently unequal... when a 73 year old Mike Jagger and the likes gave birth to a child, nobody gave a blink about it. when you are rich and a man, you can get away with anything...If you are a woman over 40, then you are done, at least according to some people. Whenever I hear of a celebrity over 60 fathering a child I kinda cringe. But then they have the money to support a cute young wife and babies. I really cringed with Mick because he's already a grandpa of three. Edited September 13, 2019 by a LoveShack.org Moderator thread clean up
Mr. Lucky
Having kids over forty for anyone is just stupid. Well, I had my son when I was 47. One of the best things (as were my other kids) to happen to me, but a special blessing because I was at a point in my maturity where I was relaxed, financially secure and comfortable in my own skin. I can guarantee I played more sets of tennis, helped with more science projects and traveled more of the world with him than 99% of other dads. I raised him to be a fine young man, he kept me young .
