I have insomnia and trouble sleeping to a degree.  I take melatonin but it only works for 4-5 hours a night so far, when I feel like I could use more.

Melatonin helps you to fall asleep. It doesn’t help you to stay asleep.

Oh I see.  Well is there a way to make myself less horny if that could be what is waking me up?  How do other guys save up their sexual energy and not masturbate for days, but not let it bother their sleep then?  Do they just try to think of things that really turn them off?

Id say being horny while in bed can cause insomina. Your mind is obviously too busy. Maybe read focus on something that interests you until you get drowsy. If your horny thinking about your GF then thats a good thing. I think 90% of males have experienced this at sometime or another. Lack of energy when with your gf may poiint to another matter.

Well I thought that my energy with my gf would increase if I didn't masturbate at all, and saved up.  And it's true.  I had more energy with her the last two times, and I didn't masturbate for a week almost the last time and that seemed to help.  The only downside is, is it's hard to sleep as a result becuause I am too horny as a result, and don't know how else to fix that.

I feel like my sleep deprivation issues have become worse, ever since I started exercising more and doing different types of work outs.  I was told that this should not be the case, and the exercise should make me more tired, but I feel it's the opposite and actually feel more awake with more adrenaline, as if the exercise is making it worse.  Could it be, or does this mean I just need to exercise even more to tire myself out more perhaps?

Thanks to anyone who knows more about this.  I really appreciate it.

Yes generally exercise should make you sleep better,

however adrenaline will keep you awake,

Im feeling the same tonight, I am feeling the adrenaline rush of still being able to beat a hot shot guy 20 years younger than me at squash.

no way Im sleeping tonight- however tomorrow I will feel the effects no doubt.

exercising earlier in the day I find can be better for sleeping at night.

Okay thanks that makes sense. It's just hard to earlier in the day, because if I want to see my gf, our only time together is earlier because of our work schedules.  So I don't know if earlier is possible on any days I want to see her.

Exercising late will keep you awake.

I usually do it about 3 hours before bed with my schedule. Is it possible to exercise to the point where I'll be exhausted no matter what?

I think you need to work through your sleep issues vs lifestyle with someone who's a specialist.  Or at least your primary care physician.

I can do that, thanks.  But on the exercise part of the things, is there exercises I can do that will cause be to be exhausted and tired rather than create more adrenaline by any chance?

You'd want to be looking at soothing exercise such as Yoga.   Or exercise every second day so that you can sleep on the nights you don't exercise.

But you've also been saying that not masturbating is causing your insomnia.

Oh actually I've been having a lot of sex lately, so I don't think the not masturbating should be an issue therefore, or at least I don't feel that it is, since I've been a lot more active lately.

But also does yoga give you a lot of cardio exercise though?  I didn't think it did but I could try.

Yes, excessive exercise can exacerbate sleep deficit.

Especially if you aren't getting enough Deep Cycle Sleep, which is restorative and happens only in the first half of the night, working in tandem with your circadian cycle.

A good HRV app can assist you in keeping track of your sleep and exercise patterns.

Oh okay, but I have only been exercising for about going on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day on average though.  Is that excessive?

The reason I suggested Yoga is because it's about stretching and relaxing (not cardio) and therefore is the kind of exercise which may help you sleep.

Have you ever taken a week off exercising to see if it's actually the cause of your insomnia?  You've guessed at many causes over the years, so you might have to rule the issues out by process of elimination.

I ended up not exercising for a certain amount of days because of work taking up too much time.  But on those days I do feel more tired, compared to days when I exercise yes.  On those days I only get about 4-5 hours of sleep,  and then tired when I wake up always, because it wasn't enough.  Where as if I exercise, I have trouble falling asleep and staying in a deep enough sleep because my adrenaline feels too high.

But if I don't exercise on a day, I can only sleep for about 4-5 hours and then wake up tired a lot.  But it's getting better than before since before it was no sleep at all for a lot more nights.

Not at all.

Unless you have trouble breathing and talking afterwards.

Have you ever had your cortisol levels checked? Might want to since you struggle so much with sleep.

Yeah it's always been 4-5 only for over a year now.

So what evidence do you have that exercising 3hrs before sleep is the cause of insomnia

None but I feel like I am not sleeping as well or as deeply when I exercise 3 hours before bed.  Still have sleep deprivation issues either way, just with exercise, I have more energy and adrenaline it feels like before bed.

No the doctor never suggested it, but I can ask him about that.  Thanks.
