as811
Hi there, I am currently in China, teaching English and really rather like one of my TA's. Firstly, I would have no idea if said feelings are mutual. Secondly, whilst we get on in the work environment, conversation is on the whole about work and so fear outside of that context it may be strained. Lastly, I worry that making any sort of attempt to ask her out may make working with her beyond this rather awkward. So ye, any advice, suggestions most welcome. Thank you, Chris. Foxhall
Yes well try moving the conversation beyond work and see what type of rapport you have otherwise, if the vibe seems positive you could suggest touring some of the local sights together or her showing you around if she is Chinese, dont be shy anyway go for it, I do not see it as resulting in any awkwardness- she will be pleased to be asked and even if she is not interested it will be all forgotten about in a few weeks.
Author as811
We've talked a little bit beyond 'our kids', but there isn't much time at work and she is only the teaching assistant for only one of my classes, so windows for conversation are pretty limited. I suppose why awkwardness comes into it is because once it's out there in the open, the idea of going into a class having to sing all these kindergarten songs and whatnot next to her, with that out there seems like it would just hang in the air somehow! I had this really strong feeling the other day that I would bump into her on one of our days of.. and lo and behold there she was... but I sort of froze and panicked and feel I wasted a good chance.. and then spent the rest of the day berating myself. Quite standard. But cheers, I think I will make more of a concerted effort to talk about not work things and eventually subtly suggest doing something, you know, outside of work hours . Thanks.
