How big is a big age gap?

Recommended Posts

Just the other day the actress Katherine Zeta Jones celebrated her 50th birthday by playing golf with her 75 year old husband, Michael Douglas, before they went to visit his 102 year old father, Kirk Douglas. Those are some serious gaps but it works for them.

Kirk sure beat the odds after his stroke, man that was a long time ago; his wife of 65 years, however, is only 3 years younger than him, 100 this year. In his more robust years, he was well known, by his wife and others, to enjoy the nubile young female flesh that wandered the halls of Hollywood. Is youth the secret of longevity? ;)

Lucky. I think that your body is used to activity so thats why you don't feel your age.

May very well be, I've been active and competed in different sports all my life. Always enjoyed the camaraderie, sportsmanship and physical benefits. The occasional cold beer with friends afterwards not too bad either.

For me, there's been three keys in 'successfully' dealing with aging -

- focusing on health and activity

- nurturing my marriage and family through changes

- staying current with culture and technology

All seem like no-brainers, but it's sobering the number of people I know my age that have let their bodies, relationships and intellectual curiosity go to waste...

If Michael got his dad's genes Catherine would be 75 when he's 100. Same literal number as ~30 and 55 when they married but doesn't seem as marked. Perception can color our reality. Age gaps of 7-15 years were common in my parent's generation as men returned from the war and wanted young brides, themselves being in their mid-late 20's. My dad was an oddity already having a wife and two kids when war took him to Europe. His wife at that time was only a few years younger and died last year at age 98, outliving him by over three decades.

My maternal grandparents have an 11-year age gap, with my grandma being 77 and my grandpa being 88. They have been married for more than 50 years.

In some ways, I am sort of attracted to someone who is 13 years younger than me. I am only 33 and she will turn 20 soon. I am not sure about pursuing that.

I have no attraction to any woman under 27 or at least physically. My spot is 27 to 57. As long as I don't see her as a Mother/Grandmother towards me. All is good.

Your grandpa was "38ish" when they married, she was approximately 27. Big difference between that and 33/19...
