primer
Did you ever block someone so they could not call or text your cell phone? What was your reasoning? I blocked my ex because he was always texting me stupid things - trying to make small talk and get his foot in the door. My sister is also blocked. She never responds to my texts anyways. I blocked her so I wouldn't be tempted to text her.
d0nnivain
I blocked a former friend to make it very clear that the lines were drawn never to be crossed. In the beginning it also prevented me from looking at her stuff. I didn't really block her "everywhere" just on social media. I didn't change my phone #s. I still live at the same address. She could get through if she needed to. I am also still social media friends with her sisters & adult children. We probably have upwards of 50+ friends in common.
vla1120
I have my own little theory on this subject. I will probably never block anyone, unless it is someone toxic/annoying, but otherwise completely harmless. Even then, I'm not sure I would block them, but rather just delete their texts. My (estranged) husband is toxic and abusive, but I don't block him because he has terminal cancer and I am concerned he could text me when he truly needs help. I don't need that on my conscience. If I had a stalker, I might be tempted to block him, but on the other hand, what if he texted me threatening messages and I did not see them because they were blocked? I would have no proof for the police, nor would I be warned of a pending incident, perhaps. So, it is my practice not to block anyone (except robocallers!)
Gaeta
I have blocked a couple of random online-dating freaks that wouldn't take no for an answer.
preraph
I blocked one of my very best friends on Twitter because she was taking a very hysterical leftist political view that she picked up from her nutty sister-in-law, parroting things she said, while at the same time telling me weekly what a nutter her SIL is and how irrational, nosy, etc. Besides here, Twitter is the only other place I occasionally post things she'd find objectionable. And at the same time, I also blocked some old early Twitter followers who were starting to post propaganda, people I had no investment in anyway, and I just got tired of reading made-up nonsense. With my good friend, I never said a word to her. And she never asked. We email at least weekly and often multi-daily and just stay off politics.
The Outlaw
I only block telemarketers. My younger brother just blocked our soon to be step mother and sister. I don't see the need to do at present. But if a person wants to get in contact with you, that won't stop them.
Happy Lemming
I never blocked an ex, but I do delete the phone number out of my phone. I don't want to be tempted to "drunk text" or "drunk call" them. I did have one ex-girlfriend call me "out of the blue", like 18 months after she dumped me. She told me she made a mistake, missed me and wanted me back. We got back together for a while, until a family emergency forced her to move away. I'm very glad I didn't block her. Mr. Lucky
Blocked a friend because he wouldn't stop sending me right-wing political material that was at times racist, sexist and misleading, with virus-laden attachments. He told a mutual friend I was a 'snowflake"... Mr. Lucky
Rayce
I have blocked a couple of random online-dating freaks that wouldn't take no for an answer. me too... I got 3 right now. I also have my son on blocked right now because a phone call will not due. He needs to come visit. I also have my childhood friend blocked. You can read about that reason in one of my earlier post if you are so inclined.
amaysngrace
lol Mr Lucky I blocked my toxic abusive ex husband but unlike others on this thread I’d be okay if I found out he had terminal cancer and couldn’t reach me.
chillii
When l was on the date site way back when, if she liked me but only sent one and two word messages l'd just block her. Zero interest in dragging blood out of stone.
greymatter
I have blocked my most recent ex because he was texting me randomly and I not only don't want to hear from him, but didn't think my current partner would appreciate seeing texts from a guy to me saying "I'm thinking of you, how are you?" I also blocked guys I went on dates with in the last couple of years before I met my partner, because they would randomly reach out sometimes. Other than that, I block robocalls. Mr. Lucky
Other than that, I block robocalls. Wish I knew how you do it. I block their numbers religiously, they just move to another... Mr. Lucky
