divegrl
Hi!!! So I have a great job lined up! I got my list of daycares in the area and started calling to ask for tours and rates. The first call- We have a waiting list of 4 months. Next- Waiting list of 7 months Next - Waiting list of 1 year Last- The lady just laughed as said she had no availability!!! I have now learned that you have to put your name on a waiting list before you get pregnant!!! So now I am quite unsure of what to do. Has anybody ever been in this situation where they want to go back to work but can’t find quality daycare? Any advice? Thanks so much!!!!!!
preraph
You'll just have to hire a private babysitter. I imagine you can go through an agency.
Author divegrl
Ugh. I can’t do that. I think my family would actually loose money. It’s so disheartening.
Artdeco
Are there no privately run daycares in your area? I mean you know those run in a private household by a stay at home mom who takes in five / six kids per day while their parents are at work? I mean they’re all over the place here, you could find them on Facebook. If you’re not 100% comfortable with it, don’t let the great job go! Just stay on the waiting list for the day cares and use a private daycare until your child can get into one of those.
Author divegrl
Thank you!!! Those are full too! I just told my boss I can’t start for months. We will see if the job is open! Have a beautiful day!!!!
Rockdad
Have you considered in lieu of going to work and paying for child care to babysitting for a couple kids for income?
Rayce
I am so sorry... that must of been so hard to tell your new boss. A better job will open when you are able to get childcare. Do you have family that can help out while you wait on the waiting list. Check with your local college maybe you can get a student who is studying to be a teacher or something.
GorillaTheater
Have you considered in lieu of going to work and paying for child care to babysitting for a couple kids for income? That's a good idea from the sound of things, if you think you could stand it. It certainly seems that demand vastly outstrips supply.
Mr. Lucky
babysitting for a couple kids for income? My wife did this when our kids were small, actually worked well for us. Between food, clothes, transportation, etc., easy to lose sight of how much it costs each month to pursue a career. And while I know it’s not an option for every family, truth is no one will love and care for your child the way you do. Twenty years down the road, still get Christmas cards from the kids and families she watched... Mr. Lucky

Yes it was. I am still pursuing other options. Even if we pay a college student or the like, minimum wage, it stills adds up really quickly for full time care. I have asked a couple of my mom friends to share a sitter, but so far no luck. Thank you so much for your reply!

After this experience, I’m actually thinking about it. I love kids, and there certainly seems to be a market! Thank you for your reply!!
