ironpony
I feel like I've gained more lately, cause I haven't been exercising near as much these past few months cause of a knee injury I had before. I can still walk around, I just have to rest of it, cause if I exercise then it hurts more. I have a very physical job, where we do a lot of heavy lifting all day. I've been trying to cut down on my meals to loose weight, and not eat as much. But when I do this, I get more hungry and it makes the physical job more difficult to do. Is there a way I can cut back if that is what is necessary, but without getting hungry at work? In my job, we are also required to work overtime, which means more food too, to keep going. Also, a lot of times people invite me over to dinner and I want to go, and not be rude, if their food is not exactly the best for weight loss. Should I be conducting myself differently there? Ellener
I've done the keto diet this year, minus the bacon fat. I did it to get my a1c perfect, I seem to be susceptible to processed foods and added sugar, eating very low carb seems to work best for me. There's a 90 second almond flour or coconut flour microwave bread ( google for the recipe ) I take with me to friends' meals, and just eat the salads and sides. I don't make a lot of fuss about it and if I know there is unlikely to be food I can eat I will eat something healthy before I go out. Taking along avocados to share always seems to work too, or smoked salmon if I'm feeling well off! Good luck
carhill
Try changing what you eat rather than how much. Also, you can exercise in ways that protect your knee. No doubt the daily lifting isn't doing it any favors. Possible to get a doctor release to lighter duty? Myself I cut out processed sugars in daily diet, eliminated nearly all alcohol (one six-pack of beer in five months) and cut way back on carbs. I did find lean red meat to be a necessity. Things got pretty wonky after three months without, even with other meat and dietary protein. Also, have your testosterone checked. It can affect metabolism, slowing it if diminished. mrs rubble
What are you drinking? So many calories come from fruit juice and fizzy drinks, ditch them and drink water instead. As well as checking testosterone like carhill said, check your thyroid function as this can mess with metabolism too. Swimming is a great low impact way to exercise.
carhill
Yes, good point, my mom was hypothyrodic and if her meds weren't right she gained weight with no other changes. She insisted on using pig thyroid hormone before becoming really demented and it was often hard to keep that at a consistent level. Synthroid was a lot easier. OP, probably worthwhile overall to get a complete physical.
amaysngrace
Fill up on foods that are low (ish) in calories but high in fiber. This way you’ll get the most out of your food because it will stay with you longer. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/22-high-fiber-foods
lana-banana
What's your current weight? How much weight do you want or need to lose? As others have mentioned, nutrient-rich (particularly high-fiber) foods are a great starting point, but if you are overweight to the point where you've developed metabolic syndrome then you will need more drastic measures. Have you talked to your doctor about it? And yes, if your friends invite you over you can tell them you're on a diet. If they're even the slightest bit considerate they'll at least fix a salad or have something lighter available. If they won't fix healthy food, maybe you can invite them over and cook something healthy for them. Skinnytaste and Kalyn's Kitchen are great resources for healthy cooking. Author ironpony
Oh okay. My current weight is about 202 pounds give or take. I use to be 180 years ago when I was thin, and would like to get back down to that. I am trying to get modeling jobs, since I was told I would be good at that, and anything is better than where I work now. But in order to be better at getting those jobs, I should try to get back down to 180. I haven't talked to the doc about it yet, because I thought he would just say the same thing as any internet site would when it comes to dieting. But so far the dieting has improved and I lost some of it cause I use to be 206. But after months now, have not been able to get down anymore than that.
