year 2019: Why is it wrong for a mother to marry her son?

I (M20) have an ethics professor who I believe just likes an uncomfortable atmosphere in the lecture hall; that or anything can be gotten away with as a lesson in an ethics class.

We're to put together a 3 page report on the subject title, and I'm not sure where to begin. Would like to know your thoughts:

Qn:

The law has been rewritten to accommodate all form of acceptance e.g. gay (Lesbian/Homosexual) relationships. Ethics, religion, any-form-of-moral-standing and culture have been thrown out the window and flagged as unnecessary.

Birth control is at a high from vasectomies and pills to various chemical options. And for those that really want offspring, donor sperm and eggs can make up the other 50% in fertilisation.

So, why would it be wrong for a mother to marry her son? Or for that matter, a father to marry his daughter or a sister and brother to get married? - yes, if it's not clear, marriage as a sexual relationship.

PS: Posted under relationships because I'm more curious about the real world/community reaction angle, than paradoxical ethical reasoning. However, all insights are welcome.

Well besides the fact that it is incest if they have children together there is a high possibility of birth defects.

It’s codependency in its purest form so the risk of it being emotionally destructive is high.

When your professor handed out this research assignment the professor expected scholarly research not posts on internet message boards.

Try researching in the following locations:

* ethics books & papers

* laws, particularly the legislative intent behind any law regulating this subject; a good librarian in any good government document depository library can help you

* religious treatises

* reading Oedipus Rex by Sophocles
