Redguitar35
I saw a job opening that looked so right for me you could’ve copied and pasted my resume as the job announcement. I went home and started my application but when I went to submit the damn job posting closed before I had the chance. I just missed the deadline (which wasn’t even listed)! I’m gonna be stuck working in this dysfunctional office until I die. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Lemming
Keep looking... Many years ago, I had a similar experience. I went on two interviews with this GREAT company (fully expecting them to issue an offer letter) at the conclusion of the 2nd interview, but nope. I sent a second "thank you" letter for the 2nd interview, thinking I'd hear from them in a couple of days or so, but no... In the end, I found a much better job a few months later. Jobs opportunities come and go, just keep plugging away. As a side note, I had this one really crappy job I couldn't stand, so I quit and did some "temp-ing". I kind of liked "temp" work. One "temp" job offered me a "permanent" position. Can you "temp" in your field??
schlumpy
Red are you sure you didn't break the heart of a Gypsy girl in the past and as you were apologizing during the exit said, "I'm sorry" and she replied with, "You Will BE."
SumGuy
If you are perfect for the job find some way to get your resume to them, even call. You can say you heard about from a friend but when went looking the site just closed. Or something like that, make sure doesn’t sound like you procrastinated. Which isn’t bad if you are perfect for the job. If you can reach the hiring manager best, HR I guess will work. I can say as a person who hired for many years HR sucked, the official vendor sucked, can’t tell you how many days wasted working with the official system, which never produced a good candidate. I can’t tell you how much would have loved a call from a go getter, even if had to give them an official line and point them to the process I’d take the resume and do all in my power to get them in an interview.
preraph
I agree with this. Snail mail the boss your resume if you want. I like to go around HR when possible. You can usually google and find out who the owner or manager is and then just snail mail him/her c/o company name and address. Put a cover letter. Keep it brief. "I've been interested in working for your company. My skills are ____, and I've attached my resume. Hope to hear from you when you have an opening. Sincerely, Redguitar." One page resume. Put jobs relevant to this position on there and anything long-term and don't go back further than 10 or so years. I like this best because if HE then gives that resume to HR, HR will hopefully make a note of that.
SumGuy
Good advice. Also if the manager needs to fill this position may want to do it by end of year, before his budget changes. That is these positions sometime vanish in the next budgeting cycle or there is a need for cost reduction to make the numbers look good. Snail mail also shows initiative.
