I was getting food today at food center mall type of thing. I got some food and as im walking i drop my fork.

I see a pretty girl working at an ice cream shop and ask to give me a fork. She gives it me and says “we only have spoons :)”. I Walk outside to eat and sit.

Then I walked back inside...seems there is a guy waiting for her there now...

and ask if she has any water and she asked me if I want a cup and I said no I just want a bottle of water. She asks me how my food was and i said it wasnt that great. She agreed she didnt like that particular food from that place.

I then figure okay..its clear shes making conversation. Your cute, im cute lets goooo lol. I asked her if she worked there everyday. She kind of got nervous and looked to the guy. I asked her if she was Brazilian and she replied yes. I told her..i know you are because you are beautiful. She then kind got weird.

What did i fo wrong ?Was that guy her bf..was she just starting a convo to show off? I dont get it

The pretty girl was glad to give you a spoon which is a very general gesture for a person employed at an ice cream shop to do for a stranger.

When you began to make personal comments and ask personal questions of her it became uncomfortable for her because her only interest was in you as a customer, not as a friend.

There's no way for us posters to determine whether the guy there was her bf or not.

I agree with LivingWater.

Why did you think she was interested in you based on this interaction? Because she talked to you?

I mean basically. Usually young girls my age dont make conversation like that u less they like you. Plus she was Brazilian and i know its weird to say but the brazilian girls always like me. Guess i was wrong. I dont think i did anything wrong. Maybe just expected a little too much

Agreed. There were no where near the signs she was into you. Especially since none of this is outside the customer/ host dynamic.

It's her job. When you work retail or with the public, you serve the public and it's your job to be friendly and helpful. She literally talks to and helps everyone who comes up to the counter. You can't mistake that for coming on to you.

You did do something wrong. You started asking her personal questions. Women will especially make conversation like that when they're working a customer service-type job. It's her job to be nice. That's what she was doing. She wasn't getting personal with you.

Asking when someone works is a little disquieting for most. Like, why would you want to know when I work? Are you going to come by and bother me during my shift, or even worse, try to catch me while I'm walking to my car?

It was also weird to ask her if she's Brazilian. Why does it matter?
