Hi this is the Asian bloke again asking for dating advice -

I have the potential to seek out jobs now in Madison WI, Peoria IL, and St Louis MO. I still crave the professional multicultural woman who is open minded about politics/ cultural beliefs/ everyday life. Aka the Dr Banks from the movie Arrival.

What will I find in these places? From what I can tell Peoria IL is mostly a farming community so it will be almost identical to living in narrow minded Mississippi.

I have no idea what the dating cultures are like. Madison has the highest % of college graduates of the three but St Louis has the highest population. Of those three, I’d choose Madison. I did an internship there in the 1980’s and loved it, but it was summer.

Hands down Madison is the place to be. Lively, going to seem like another world after Mississippi and beautiful as well.

IRRC you are low 30s, a great place where you may meet a graduate student perfect for you.

Madison is also one of the top universities in several STEM fields, so you get some of the brightest there and certainly those who can provide intellectual stimulation.

Educate me why you pick that one above St Louis Missouri? I'm just asking because I don't know the cities well enough.

Madison is much more dynamic than St Louis, when it comes to going out. Also Madison is going to be more on the progressive-independent side of the cultural spectrum than St Louis which is more on the conservative side. Given the greater influence of the university on life in Madison than St Louis it’s more likely you’ll find that intellectual stimulation and culture that values education in Madison; that is the fact based professions are going to be more respected than looked askance at.

Been to both cities, and lived in the Midwest for years, wouldn’t hesitate to move to Madison, would have to be strongly convinced to move to St Louis.

I know St. Louis very well. The State of Missouri is indeed very politically and socially conservative - the City of St. Louis most definitely is not. It is however a socially complex city that is very segregated - racially, economically, socially.

If I remember correctly, OP, you are a doctor. St. Louis has highly rated Universities, hospitals and medical schools. The circles of which you would most naturally be part in St. Louis would very likely provide what you seek. As far as going out, St. Louis has very diverse and distinct areas to match the various "circles". But you would need to be comfortable with occasionally coming into contact with the "grittier" part of the area. If you want everything to be urbane, sophisticated and "nice" all the time, St. Louis wouldn't be the city for you.

10 yrs ago I met a girl from LS in St. Louis. The whole thing was a huge disaster. I'll never go there again.
