I recently discovered massage therapy. All licensed, trained, and strictly legitimate.

It really made my minor aches and pains go away. Restored some flexibility. It was of course very relaxing but perhaps not as relaxing as the massage propagandists would have you believe. Still, it has benefits. I intend to stick with it for life.

I'm more relaxed with a lady touching me. The therapists looks honestly are a factor. Number one in my book is that she looks healthy. I expect that from my Doctors too. Otherwise her looks must not be distracting. I can't totally relax if she is drop dead beautiful, or if her looks are off putting. Healthy, average to pleasant looking is perfect.

The therapist does not attempt to excite me. I've had a couple of moments of involuntary excitement. But normally I just submerge into a quiet place.

Have you tried it?

I've used physiotherapists and remedial massage for years. I don't care which gender they are or what they look like. Instead, I stick with the ones who are skilled enough to fix the cause of the problem rather than give a temporary fix on the symptom.

Agree with basil67.

I also have used massage therapists for years and have found a great one who is able to work below the surface of the skin, finding stuff and rearranging it so that I'm once again comfortable.

I've only gone to one male therapist. He was OK, way too expensive and not worth what he charges.

The one I like best is female and overweight. I don't care what they look like as long as they're good at their work, clean and pleasant.

I WISH I could find a good one. Like you, I prefer female masseuses, but it seems like the majority of the ones I can afford, chair masseuses, are really deteriorated looking men and I won't do it.

I once worked in an office building that had a female chair masseuse one Monday a month, and she was great. She cured me of a shoulder pinch I got from typing and has had and suffered with for years! With one session! Found out she was a chiropractor in the same building so I made an appointment and when I got there for it, she fobbed me off on her weirdo male chiro partner, so I never went back. Grrr. I think a lot of people must prefer women ones because I have also been bait and switched in places like the health food markets. I've gone and waited for a female masseuse and signed up for massage and just waiting for her to get done, only to have a man replace her. That was my last massage and it was some years ago now.

I tried hard to find one last year and I found a woman listed on a street nearby, but I did find it odd because I couldn't figure out where she was located since I knew the street well. Well, I called her and she said she wasn't taking appointments and I decided she was actually a prostitute and just using a fake address.

So I wish I could find a good one. I did go to The Joint briefly, but they don't do massage. They only do a general adjustment, very limited in scope, so I quit. My knees hurt, so I really don't even know if I can do a chair massage anymore anyway, and can't lay on my front like that either, so....but I'd try one if I could find one.

I don't know what a chair massage is, preraph. Maybe it's when you sit in a chair while they massage you?

I do the one where you lie down on an elevated cushioned table. The lady who does mine knows how to untangle things that are bunched up and actually moves tissue around beneath the skin!

I wish you could find a good one, too! Maybe ask around? But maybe you already have.

Another thing that is somewhat helpful is to buy an electric neck massager. I have a neck massager, full back massage chair and also a foot massager. I sometimes use them all at the same time! A real person does a better job, of course, but this does help a lot.

With the neck massager you can move it around on your back, too. It's a shiatsu type. I would list the brand but not sure it's ok to do that. They're about $60 and I'm getting some as Christmas gifts for relatives.

I think massage definitely has its uses. My husband is pretty good and making me relax by rubbing my back and shoulders. GF#1 also gets post-workout massages at her club sometimes. IDK why, but most of the time massages seem to be fairly rough. I need a more gentle touch and to not have my muscles squeezed. I get more tense like that, not less.

Swedish massage seems fairly gentle to me. Sports massage is rough. Though a skilled therapist going after a knot can increase the intensity of a Swedish massage.

I'm fortunate to have many choices in my area. I was careful (website info) to select a practice with staff pictures. I prefer female therapists that appear health conscience. As you mentioned, I've heard stories of clients being handed off to male therapists. So I won't go to a place with male therapists.

I realize they're skilled professionals but it's a fact of life that I can't fully relax with them.
