Robert
Hi mark clemson, I believe Paul replied upstream about 4 posts. I also think it is a great idea, maybe even a crash and burn one.. Or a dumpster fire 😭 Edited January 10, 2020 by Robert
mark clemson
Thanks. He responded to the Sympathy suggestion but not the "Acknowledge" one. Not that I need a Mod response on every suggestion or anything, but CO has asked about the Acknowledge idea so was replying to her. Maybe shoulda used @CO oh well...
Paul Posted January 10, 2020 Board of Directors Share Posted January 10, 2020 Good ideas! I spit water out all over my keyboard at the dumpster fire suggestion, @Robert. 🤣
Prudence V
Just a question: currently, when we post links, the post goes into a queue for moderation. I tend to post links (1) when someone asks for resources like articles / literature etc to read up more about something, or (2) as evidence to support a factual claim, if there has been a counterclaim, to lift the discussion above “you’re wrong!” “No, you’re wrong!”. Obvs in the latter case, posts with links are delayed in appearing in the thread, which can make the flow of the thread a bit counterintuitive. Is this a temporary thing, or will all posts containing links require moderation henceforth in perpetuity - and if so, are we advised to can the link thing and hone our persuasive skills instead? And, relatedly, if someone asks for stuff to read, should we PM them with links / directions to the resources instead (assuming they have PM privileges)?

Is this a temporary thing, or will all posts containing links require moderation henceforth in perpetuity - and if so, are we advised to can the link thing and hone our persuasive skills instead? Thanks for the question! We moderate links because, by far, the most common reason a link is posted on our site is to market some sort of spammy nonsense. This has greatly reduced the amount of garbage members have to wade through as spammers try to take advantage of our community. Previously, this sort of stuff would stay on the site until a moderator found the spam and removed it. We are working to improve the system so that trusted, established members don't have to wait for approval to post a link. But, links are welcome and encouraged in the instances you described. See our link policy for more. I'd encourage you to continue posting them publicly and we've been doing our best to stay on top of moderated links to get them through as quickly as possible until our improvements are in place. Best, Paul Edit: Also, not all spam has links! If you encounter any, click the report post button! It's in the upper left of any post. Even if you think someone else will see and report it, when we get multiple reports from different people that a post is Spam, we automagically get rid of it until a moderator can review. nospam99
Confirmed: when a topic gets moved to a different category from the one it was last in, the 'go to first unread' setting gets set back to a post read several days ago.
William
One workaround on topics where one ends up not where expected and I'm pretty much doing it on every topic now is to click on the clock at right in 'what's new' view or far right time in forum view. That goes to the last post, perhaps not a perfect workaround but helps on long threads where the system isn't directing as expected. I'll catalog some of the exceptions like the one you noted and add to the list. Thanks for the report! Edited January 10, 2020 by William Different views

nospam99
I'm finding it quite annoying that the sequence number of the reply does not appear. Seems to me it did on the old system. It helped to reassure me that I was reading 'new' replies. Also I recall as small message on each page or maybe when hovering over a page number link, something like 'replies 16 through 25'. I'm big into 'signal to noise' ratio, which is part of the reason I complain about whitespace.
SummerDreams
It would be helpful if we could see the poster's gender through colors or words next to their name. I understand that green is for guys and purple is for ladies, but what if they have a profile photo? Thank you!
nospam99
Age, sexual preference (hetero, homo,bi,asexual), and where they live (country!) would also be helpful. Even under the old system, revealing those details was a personal choice.
mark clemson
I agree with @nospam99 that post #s would be helpful. On the emotes/reactions suggestions - along with Sympathy and Acknowledged, would you consider Popcorn? This would be for posts where I don't necessarily want to respond but I'm recognizing that the poster has "put his foot in it" and is about to get a lot of critical/negative/push back responses. Not sure if you want to go there, but you COULD. Kudos/Congratulations might also be nice. Another possible one could be Hugs. Maybe that's very close to Sympathy tho, dunno. No need to respond, these are all just suggestions to consider.

In line with the 🍿 suggestion, for the person who ignores all the responses on their thread but keeps asking the same question even though it’s been answered 1 000 000 000 000 times.... because they’re still holding out hope someone’s gone tell them what they want to hear... what about a 😴 or a 🥱 or a 🚿🧼 rinse and 🚿🧼 repeat? I took a look and I'm pretty sure the colors are random and not there to define the users gender, I've seen plenty of green ladies and purple guys as well as some blues and pinks. If a user has chosen to share their gender you can still see it by clicking over to their profile page.
William
For those who were members prior to the software change and did have a gender identifier, I believe the software defaulted to none listed after the move. Also, the new software adds an additional option if one chooses to list gender - "Other". Below is this: Respond only if you feel comfortable indicating your gender. As Tristian mentioned, if a member lists their gender, it's a click of their avatar or username away, look in left-hand column down the page a bit. However, we have no way of verifying gender. Such listing is completely under user control and voluntary.
Artdeco
You also have to wait for moderation if you just quote a post with a link?
Robert
@Artdeco yes, any post that has a clickable link or url in it must be approved by a moderator. It helps keep the open forum clean of all spam that would normally get through the filters. The system gives us a notification that a post needs approval was posted so if a moderator is online they will be approved in pretty good time Edited January 16, 2020 by Robert

William
If quoting a post with a link in it, edit the quote to remove the link while forming up the reply and avoid the auto-moderation of the post.
