I live in a big city and I see the young people doing this a lot.  I guess they think it's better than cigarettes?  The thing I can't get past is that you're STILL putting something into your lungs that's not supposed to be there.  That's can't be good for your lungs and most likely will have an effect.

It seems no laws around vaping were enforced in the early days. It was a free-for-all, a fun, trendy thing for people to do. People are prone to oral fixations, and this is the perfect medium for that. Now all the studies have been coming out about how bad it is for you, so hopefully people wise up and lay off it.

In the US, serious health problems that appear to be tied to vaping are become frequent news stories. Also as you may know, nicotine is added to keep the products addictive.

As to WHY people do it, well, primarily Marketing, right? Some of these companies are notoriously good at marketing to young people. Also it is (or at least was) perceived as a healthier, and "safe" alternative to smoking.

Personally I wouldn't let my kid start vaping or at least would do what's in my power to prevent them.

People thought it was better than cigarettes.  No soot, no heat, etc....   Now they are finding out that it is worse because there's more chemicals.  DUH.  I definitely regret the cigarettes that I smoked years ago, but I didn't have the habit very long.  I wouldn't try vaping ever.

it's because of nicotine, it's one of the most addictive substances known to man

vaping is not worse than burning tobacco (and whatever other crap is in cigarettes) and inhaling it. You don't get the tar, Carbon Monoxide, etc that you do from smoking. All the hysteria is over bootleg THC vapes in which they were cut with some Vitamin E and this caused the issues people were having. Doctors and advisory boards have gone on record as saying it is a better option than smoking. Not saying anyone should do it, but for someone who quit smoking through vaping, I know what I know and I know what I've read.

Looks like you are right above the Vitamin E. The link below is from the Center for Disease Control.

That said, I personally wouldn't trust vaping after this. In particular, I wouldn't start doing it if I was a non-smoker. Who knows when the next batch of corner-cutting manufacturers will crop up.

Vaping also makes using marijuana a lot easier. No having to roll, no smell, no easy way to tell what it is  etc. Everyone I know who vapes is vaping marijuana

kids who vape are more likely to jump to regular cigarettes

Vapes taste good and you don’t smell it on you like you do a cigarette.

Right now I’m enjoying some mango contraband.  My governor passed a law that only menthol and tobacco flavors can be sold here.

Those flavors are what’s going to lead people into cigarettes imo.  It’s stupid logic really.

It looks like such a nasty habit to me.  Granted, I know nothing about it but still it looks nasty but I don't like

to put "crap" into my body.

I saw someone on another boat vaping the other day and looked like he had a camp fire going.  It LOOKS nasty.

Vaping is bad for the heart and lungs as well as a person's overall health.

We used to go to this Middle Eastern hookah (water pipe) bar way back. My cousin took me there so I said sure, it sounds like fun. I’m always up for anything. I was never a smoker but there’s something cool about smoking water vapor in this antique looking device. It’s like being transported back in time doing what those people did in ancient times. We’d have tea  with it then afterwards we’d go grab some middle eastern pastries called baklavas at a nearby bakery. I haven‘t been back in an extremely long time since reading up on it a bit more. But it was nice.

To look cool/older. Same reason kids smoke their first cigarette that tastes horrible. With the nicotine of course it becomes addictive.

Pot, same principle. I'm doing pot, I'm just like my friends, look how worldly I am, making my my own decisions. My parents wouldn't want me to do this, it must be cool.

Then of course the buzz makes them want to keep doing it, just like with alcohol, which makes people feel more loosened up, relaxed, fun or whatever. As adults it's fine to keep drinking but nicotine is considered bad so even nicotine chews are touted as seriously dangerous even though alcohol can be too, and that's largely cultural,  but you get the idea. We all know kids start this stuff to be cool like their friends. That's been since forever, since cigs, since alcohol, etc., etc.
