mortensorchid
Last weekend I see a post on Facebook that a friend had died. He and I had met once or twice, we chatted through the Facebook IM a few times. He seemed like a decent guy the little I knew of him. He said he and his wife had broken up, she divorced him, moved out and ran off with this other guy. He said he would sleep all day, get up, cry for a few hours, then go back to bed. I didn't know much about it other than what he told me, but I have no idea why he would lie to me about these things. He was sad, clearly lonely. About two or three years ago we were going to go out on a date but he blew me off. In considering his situation I figured this was not a good place to be in. The last time we talked was over a year ago, he seemed somewhat better in his language but decided this was not what I should get too involved with him. Last weekend, he died at age 46. According to others he began hitting the bottle very hard, might have had a heart attack. I'm so sorry this happened to him, but there was nothing I could have done. Sad to see others falling down because of these problems.
d0nnivain
Hugs. It is so sad when you see a life cut short. I am sorry for your grief. Know that you probably showed him some of the few moments of kindness he experienced in the last few years but you never had the ability to save him.

The Outlaw
It's never easy losing anyone but there isn't anything you could have done. Sadly, some people just find solace in the bottle over confiding in friends. Just try not to beat yourself up over it.
