Pleasant-Sage
Yes, it's the dreaded new year new me nonsense. I actually started working on my goals back in November to be honest. However, I didn't exactly put them into words until tonight. My plans are to pay off about $7k in debt plus have $3k in savings and $1k in the bank by this time next year. I'll actually pay off a little more debt than that but I'm just talking about wiping out 2 credit cards with relatively low balances and paying my dad back. I ran into an interesting concept for saving money. The one I ended up doing, you take the numbers 1-100 and rearrange them randomly. Whatever the number is, you save that money. For 100 numbers, you have to do 2 a week. I used excel to randomize them. If you do 1-52. You do one a week. Yeah, I get 100 at 2 a week isn't quite a year's worth of saving but that's still over $5,000 you end up saving if you can manage to stick to the plan. So anyways, say your first two numbers are 75 and 21. You put back $96 dollars for that week. Not everyone can do 1-100. I would suggest doing 1-52 if you are interested in trying it. I'm doing a combination of putting the money back and throwing part of it at debt. Anyone else have new goals or interesting life tips to share? Legatus
For savings you can also do a challenge where you set aside an amount of money equal to the number of that day in the year. Starting from only 1p/c on 1st Jan. I don't usually do goals but at the end of the year I write a lot in my journal about the main good things that happened and the bad. As for the new year I have few things that I want to put on the agenda but not necessarily reach them as goals. First is to remove expectations from my life. Realised a lot of them lead to disappointment, attachment, and even resentment. Second is to really focus on myself more. I kept saying it this year but living in London for the past 10 months was a bad idea, I proved it to myself, and it's good that in 4 weeks I'm changing countries. I really want to look at myself and learn what I want from people around me. I get attached to easily, I give too much benefit of the doubt, I am way too lenient. Those two I guess are the most important. Go back to be more self-aware of what I want from life and people, back to where I was travelling and things seemed clearer.. major_merrick
I second the Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot. But that's where I'm at with New Year's resolutions. And since i'm pregnant, I can't even get drunk on New Years Eve. Perhaps that should be my resolution - to be able to drink again once I'm done and get back to being my old crazy self. Happy Lemming
I want to finish the master suite in my home. The master bedroom & walk-in closet are finished and waiting for me to pick a color for the final coat. Master bath is just about finished, I need to save up for a glass shower door. Then I'll move onto the kitchen counter top. I picked up some granite tile (on clearance) for this project. I got the granite tile for really, really cheap, so its sitting in the garage waiting for installation. I want to put in some under cabinet lighting in the kitchen. I just have to figure out which LED strips will work best for that application. So those are my goals for 2020... Oh and continue living in paradise!!
