logan_michelle
ok i need to know if this is a real big problem or if any of you have gone to the doctor about this same ordeal and what he said it was. i get constant migranes. when i say constant i mean i get them everyday.(no exagerations)they are so bad that i am sensitive to light, noise, and even smell sometimes. i've been getting these headaches for about 5 years now and i havn't found anything that makes them go away. i've tryed wash-cloths over my face and closing my eyes. i've tryed excedrine migrane (actually ALL of the excedrine's) i've tryed tylenol, advil, ibprophine. i've tryed homeopathic remedies and still nothing works. i tryed going to sleep when i have them and i've learned that, if i do fall asleep, i wake up with an even bigger headache. i don't know what to do, but i need to know if any of you have the same problem, and what you did for it. slubberdegullion
Homeopathic remedies are a waste of time and money. My ex used to get them too. The only thing that ever worked for her was a prescription called Imitrex. Go see a doc. Today.
Outcast
Get to a doc. There have been a whole bunch of new anti-migraine medicines discovered that really work but you have to get them by prescription. You can't live a functional life with a daily migraine so go see the doctor and do something about this.

whichwayisup
I suffered from migraines really bad for about 2 1/2 years. Finally went and saw a Neurologist and they put me on Zomig. What has helped me is B12 shots, going off the Pill, drinking ALOT of water, staying away from chocolate, sugars, caffeine -depending where I am in my cycle - and knowing what triggers my migraines. Sometimes it's hormonal and weather related. Those you have NO control over so it comes down to pain management. Rest as much as you can quietly when you feel it coming on. Stay away from MSG, and other bad chemicals in foods. Those can set ya off as well. Try to keep on a good and regular sleeping schedule. Too much sleep or too little sleep will bring on M's. OH, yeah, the rebound headaches...Taking TOO many painkillers will also do it too. So you really have to pay attention to know which is rebound and which is the real thing. My suggestion, keep a daily food dairy for afew months, and write down what stresses you have as well. Helps keep track of things and see if there's a pattern. Hope this helps! I am on midrane (sp?) now and I tell you what I feel GREAT.. Go see a doc no need to suffer.

Jlmic1
I have migranes also. And I, Like you, suffered from headaches every single day. I would get about 3 horrible migranes per month ( throwing up, sensitive to light etc..) and then get horribly bad tension headaches on a daily basis. I tried everything there was to try over the counter and none of that stuff works. I went to the doctor and he sent me for an MRI of the brain. Turns out there were a few reasons causing my headaches. My Dr. put me on Fioricet for my daily tension headaches ( that medicine is a MIRACLE ), and Relpax for Migranes, also great medicine for migranes. Go to your doc and explain your symptoms, I'm confident that he/she will find a drug, or a medicine combo that will help you. I wish you the best of luck, I remember what it's like to have constant BAD headaches and no cure for them. Let us know what happens
April22
I have suffered from headaches since I was about 15. Severe migraines for about 4 years now. I have tried every med and solution under the sun. One that has worked well is Relpax if you catch it early on, and the best one by far I found is Imitrex Injections. Is sounds scary, but it's so easy to give to yourself and it works 100% almost every time. It is just hard because my insurance only gives 4 injections a month and I get way more headaches then that in a month, so having a backup like Relpax or Fioricet is a must if you get that many. Although many doctors get samples of the injections so if they are willing to give you some to hold you over for the rest of the month, that is a huge help. I also get very nauseous and vomit so I take Zofran for that which works great. I also have Demerol for when I have a migraine that has me sick in bed for days. That saves me from taking trips to the ER for meds. I try to never take that. It really is a last resort. Taking too many meds is bad also because you will have rebound headaches, so it will be a never ending cycle. Excedrin migraine also causes these, so be careful. After you find a way to get rid of the headache, you need to find a way to prevent them. There are so many triggers out there. Like food's (caffeine, MSG, and cheese really do it to me), weather (allergies make me get one daily), stress (try something like massage or acupressure therapy or yoga, it helps a lot for stress causing migraines), and normal sleeping schedule (if I sleep too much or too little I am guaranteed a headache). Best in luck with working with your doctor to find your best solution. Hope you feel better!
HotCaliGirl
That is a long time to be suffering migraines for the past five years and I'm glad to hear you are finally going to see a doctor about it. Maybe he can ask a bunch of questions and find out if it's from something you're eating or ?? I've also heard that if you do not have the correct eyeglass perscription (or need one and don't know it), your eyes will strain to focus, resulting in severe headaches, so you should get your eyes checked too...just in case! hotgurl
I've had migraines daily or about five years as well. For a preventitive med I am taking topamx and had my first pain free day in years. I can't take ralpax or imitrex because in me they can cause a stroke. for the pain I take indomecin & vicodin and sometimes tordal shots. also fenergan or zofran for the nauesa and vomiting. lots of rest, definatly watch the food and keep a journal as well. I found if I get a neck massage at the beganing of a migraine I will lesson it. unfortunatly mine are hormone related but stress will make them more intense.
Justin_EMT
Im a bit late on this, but I would like to add a couple things. I had migraines for a couple years as well and cured them a different way than many of the people on here are suggesting. Ask your doctor if it would be safe to take an herb called feverfew. It may seem an odd remedy, but after about a month of taking the herb it prevented the migraines from occurring at all. My mother talked to a mayo clinic physician about the herb as well, so its not just quackery. The only problem is it takes time for it to build up in your system, so generally at least a month is needed for it to be effective. There is also another way to prevent migraines that is just undergoing research at the mayo clinic. It will prob. also sound odd, but its botox injections. I guess they are finding out that getting botox injections in your forehead has the side effect of preventing migraines. Plus you get less wrinkles! Not sure if those will work for you specifically, but is some decent alternatives. Justin
sophia34
I just wanted to pass along information from an article I read in a news story just yesterday regarding wheat allergies and migraines. A woman who had suffered from migraines for years stopped eating wheat and wheat products, on the advice of her doctor, and her suffering stopped. Doctors are now doing research to study the connection between wheat consumption and migraine attacks. The article also mentioned that sugar and dairy products can also trigger migraines in some people. It may not relate to you, but a food allergy also may be something to look into and talk about with your doctor.
slubberdegullion
Ask your doctor if it would be safe to take an herb called feverfew. Careful here. The results are mixed at best. :Results from these trials were mixed and did not convincingly establish that feverfew is efficacious for preventing migraine. Only mild and transient adverse events were reported in the included trials.link What's more, because of lax regulatory requirements, some manufacturers of so-called natural remedies don't even put the active ingredient in the bottles! Feverfew contains parthenolide, believed to be the active component responsible for its anti-migraine activity. The Drug Regulatory Agency in Canada requires a feverfew product to contain at least 0.2% parthenolide to be considered therapeutically effective. A recent study in the U.S. revealed that many products containing feverfew had no detectable levels of this active component.link
goodnbad
I don't think anyone asked if you smoke? Or maybe I missed that. I used to get migraines every week, and when I quit smoking (after that withdrawl period), I found that my migraines really thinned out. I now get a migraine maybe every 6 months, if that. Someone else mentioned that you should drink a lot of fluid and this is truly a great idea. They say often it is only a matter of dehydration, and I found this helped me as well. Another thing: if you wake up in the morning, don't go back to bed and sleep in. I have had some of my worst migraines when I've done that. I forget the exact term for that, something like "turtle syndrome"? It has to do with disrupting your oxygen count and sleep/brain patterns. If you have this problem, you are better off going on with your day and then just going to bed a little earlier that night to catch up. Drugs/herbals to counteract migraines are great if you can use them. However, taking medication does not address the reason for why you are having headaches. IMO, meds should be used for relief, but the cause of your pain should be explored nonetheless. I would be very concerned if I were having a migraine every day. That's an awful amount of migraines. I'm glad you are seeing your doctor, I think that's very wise. goodnbad
LucreziaBorgia
This will sound strange, but you may want to have your teeth checked if you haven't in a while just to rule out any teeth grinding, or health problems in your teeth/gums that can contribute to bad headaches, or aggravate existing ones.
