The problem with moving is that people say don't live in the cheap parts of town because they are high crime, and they tell me do not do it, unless I shouldn't listen and just go for it? Also, movies are much more costly to make there, since permits and insurance are much higher compared to where I live, so I thought therefore, maybe I have a better shot making a movie, somewhere, where it wasn't so high maybe. What exactly is your goal? Specifically. Are you just planning to just make another movie on your own? If you can do that effectively from where you are, then there is no reason to move. I was thinking that you would move to Vancouver to meet more people in the industry, gain more experience in the industry, work in the industry, make connections, etc. Have you looked at rental listings to see how much it will cost you to live there? How much does it cost to rent a bedroom in an area that isn't terrible? How much are you looking to spend? I feel like you just keep asking questions but have no plan or goal and haven't researched anything at all on your own. It's just a lot of "people say this or that." By whom was your current short movie "well received"? Are these people with connections in the movie industry? Can they help you? 1
Author ironpony
My goal is to direct feature films, and that is what I would like to get into. I hope I can make another movie on my own, I just need more options of people. More options of actors, more options of crew. So perhaps I should post casting and crew calls, in other cities, and bring people in from other places then, in order to give myself more options then maybe. I keep being told to move to Vancouver, it's just I would need a job that could cover the cost of the rent and living expenses there, which I have not been able to find yet. So therefore, I thought maybe I should try to make it without having to move, if possible. Yes I looked at rental listings before, and they are quite costly compared to where I am. The prices seem to be way down now because of covid, but fear they will go back up, once covid goes away. When I say well recieved, it's filmmakers at film festivals who have seen it. Some of them who saw it are in the US and UK though, so not sure if they can help me from where they are, but perhaps they can... People say that it's worth moving to make connections, but one of the things about making connections where I am is that once you make connections, they don't expect you to advance at all. If I start out at a production assistant for example, they always wanted me to be a PA so far. If I try to get them interested in a project I am directing, they will often think "directing? you're a PA". So I wonder if there will be no room for advancement if I move to Vancouver as well therefore, but maybe. Perhaps if I got a high paying job in Vancouver then I could pay the rent, but I need to go back to college to get a higher paying job so would that be worth it then, if I am just doing that job to make more connections in the film industry?
