how realistic are online dating women about their looks?

Recommended Posts

If you filtered off the woman seeking men 5'10" and taller, then surely it is no surprise none of them were looking for a 5'9" man?

Women also are notorious for showing their absolute best side when they are single...They get personal trainers,  diet like crazy, all the best in terms of clothes, makeup, etc...

The minute they get comfortable in a relationship, that's when the pounds come  on, the hair gets cut short and all the rest...Then you have the old..."love me for who I am" stuff..

Before someone challenges this, I get it,  some aren't like this...I just have seen enough of the opposite for it to be something to consider...

TFY

Haaa, yep , that's so common it should be in a marriage or relationship manual. If she starts acting like that , he better start snooping.

Saw my ex w a few mths after we split and she'd lost 20kg and looked really good , she's all remarried and comfy again now and ummm, the size of a house .

Does anyone mind telling me what SW/BF means. My search result is cluttered by a video game on that one. Thanks!

Off MY OP topic (are OLD realistic about their looks?), but on topic for the discussion drift to the 'old height thing'....

A small, semi-random sample of women from match.com seeking men 5'10" (apparently the 'sweet spot') and taller:
First column=woman's height, second column=top of her 'seeking range'. In all cases, 5'10" is the bottom of her seeking range.
5'5" 6'2"
5'6" 6'4"
5'4" 6'4"
5'6" 6'5"
5'6" 6'10"
5'5" 6'8"
5'1" 6'5"
5'7" 6'6"
5'5" 6'0"
5'7" 6'10"
5'4" 6'3"
I'm especially 'entertained' by the 5'1" woman who says she wants a 6'5" guy but NOT one who's 5'9".

So if l went online and write l want a chick 5' or under , you could just imagine all the bs l'd get from women.

The old double standards just keep on rollin.

I am not so sure if it is double standards or more about you as a grown man would be perceived as you looking for a young teenager or a child.
I don't think a woman looking for a guy under 5' would be any better received, would they?..

Women have every right to ask for that.  Of course, it makes them incredibly shallow, and I will laugh at them if they are chronically single and insisting on a 6' guy.   But if shallow is who they are, I guess it fits.

So yes, if you want a woman less that 5', I will call you shallow too.

I guess people like what they like.,but at the end of the day, it’s about if you bring to the table what pulls that. Reality will hit eventually, whether you’re an average person with a extremely high standards or a person who puts average weight or use filters that obscure your real appearance on your dating profile. Etc. You can lie to yourself but results you get on the dating market won’t lie to you

Maybe she is 55 but looks 65.  I see a lot of that nowadays.

Hey! In my opinion the average woman still looks better than the average man. Usually women get judged harsher than men for their looks, so they are also the ones who invest way more time into skin care, hair, a fit body (there is a reason why they offer so many gym classes for abs, butt, legs for women) than men. Who gets more plastic surgery? Who obesses about looking good up to the point that they can't even carry out the garbage without applying various layers of foundation? Who spends more at the hairdresser?

That is the uncomfortable truth that many cannot stomach.
OLD may be seen as brutal, but I don't really think dating was any less brutal in days long gone by.
Some were very successful, others not so much, and some couldn't get a woman or a man interested no matter what they did...

@nospam99

How long is your profile (text)?? Like how many words??

I was thinking about the one portion you posted and it got me to thinking your profile may be too long for an interested woman to get through.

Kind of like an opening post on Loveshack... if someone writes this long book as an opening post, I'll just ignore it.  Do you think potential women are ignoring your profile because it is too long??

You got that wrong, height is not the sensitive spot with women, that's the problem that guys have. But women will tear you to pieces if you put up a weight restriction. That is indeed a double standard and I think women can be regarding height as cruel as men can be with weight.

Yea but if a girl is 5’0 and wearing 4” heels all the time, she is still a good 4 inches shorter than OP 5’8” lol. Also have to feel bad for her ankles. I know this is the case for many of my short friends but it does boggles my mind I guess , go for what they want though

the very short/petite girls want tall men is cause when they have a baby they don't want it to be short.  technically the baby should come out average height or better

Neither men nor women have a realistic notion of what they look like to other people. I think most people think of themselves and sort of a composite way. if they could accurately draw a picture of how they think they look it probably wouldn't look anything like them. It's certainly not just women. Men seem to think they never age.

@HL. After being accused of arrogance and condescension and wishing to not shoot myself in the foot, I requested a 'female friend' to review my entire profile. I will paraphrase her conclusion as a 'Pass' on the Pass/Fail scale. I don't think my profile is being ignored for its length.

A few months ago I went to the supermarket on a Sunday afternoon, not my usual shopping slot. I usually go on week days or go online.
Weekdays are full of mothers and kids and students and the elderly usually.
On that Sunday I wondered where all these fat blokes had come from to realise they were the fathers of the kids out shopping with the family...
Not only do women let themselves go...

Guys don't "train" to date....They are pretty much who they are...Women do...That's why the first time you see a woman whipping herself into shape, its because she's getting ready to put herself on the market....Again....guys don't do this...

Its the same reason that guys generally don't filter pictures...

So guys...Rest assured....If you are out on the market with the ladies.., the women you meet will never look any better than the day you met her...No...I didn't make that up...

TFY

My mother is 5'0" and my father is 6'0", while I am 5'3 with my two younger brothers (both married) being the same height.

My wife is 5'7" and our 19 year old son is 5'6".

One of my female cousins is 6'3", while her brother is 6'7", I am glad I am not as tall as they are. Way back in the early 1980s my 6'7" cousin did his 3 month army recruit course without boots, because the army had to get a new boot size made for his big feet. When I did my 3 month army recruit course in the late 1980s, I was fortunate in having feet that fit an available boot size.

At least the women make an effort to look good. No wonder guys can't get dates if they don't bother to present their best side.

So true.

Even the mirror image isn't what other people see....

My OLD experience so far has been nothing to do with anyone else and I switched off the profile for now, but it has taught me some things about my appearance and how to manage that as I age. Fortunately I was offered a side job in a beauty salons place over the summer, so the skilled ladies there have been all over me! No such thing as a bad hair day now. And Palais Royal ( a dress store ) is closing down here so I bought a bunch of new clothes too.

One of my jobs last year I worked with the nicest man, he was about 5 feet and his wife 6 something, you would never think they fit together by appearance.

And as for feet, it drives me crazy coping with my own foot disability ( COMPOUND PROBLEMS ) I'm now wearing size 12 men shoes, and the next stage is having disability shoes fitted for me/made for me, and they do not tend to be attractive.
