Using an out-of-state address on my resume to get a job in that state. Is it acceptable?

Is it acceptable to use an out-of-state address on my resume?

Especially if I am trying to move to that state, and I have permission from the person who lives at that address to use it on my resume?

Or will that hurt me during the hiring process?

The out-of-state address belongs to my girlfriend. We are in a long-distance relationship. I am trying to move down her way. But using a resume with my current address hasn't gotten me anywhere when I apply for open positions in her area. My girlfriend told me I can use her address on my resume if it will increase the likelihood I'll get called in for an interview (and especially hired). Our thinking is that employers and HR people have to sift through hundreds if not thousands of applicants, and only local resumes will stand out to them.

If I do this is this something that could hurt me during the hiring process if it's discovered I really live out of state?

I'm interested in any and all opinions, ESPECIALLY from people who are in HR or are in managerial positions.

What they don't know won't hurt them.  All's fair in love, war, and getting a job.  I mean, the employer doesn't stand to lose anything, but you NEED it to live.  Do what you have to, and keep quiet.

I think you over-estimate both the ability and will to investigate of most potential employers.

I'd be candid in any interview, "I used to live there but now I'm moving here".  The firm is more interested in your qualifications and ability than anything else...

When I did the top of my resume had 2 addresses with labels:

present address with my real address

then

local address with the other.  I used my LDR BF's address when I was trying to get a job in California.

I think putting the 2nd address shows the interviewer that you are serious about relocating & this isn't a whim.  Plus you have the means to go live there & the company won't have to pay relocation costs.

You don’t have to include your address on a resume anymore. When I was moving, I got an address at the UPS store and used that.

I'd either leave it off or put the local one. They don't know if you spend 9 months at your GFs place and 3 months at yours or the other way around, if you are in the process of moving, if you are planning on moving immediately once you secure a job...not putting a local address might automatically exclude you from jobs because you don't get a chance to explain yourself. It would only matter if you put a California address, went through the interview process and said, "Surprise! I live in Ohio and plan to stay here" or if you got the job and they asked you to start Monday and you said you couldn't move there for 2 weeks or something.
