rayne2312
I've picked up this habit about eight or so years ago and I'm trying to quit. I've tried literally almost everything, even quitting cold turkey. I find that my smoking ramps-up even more when I travel to Utah to visit family (often occurrence lately), as I have a sick family member. It's hard to give up a comforting vice during a time when you're under stress but I know this is a bad habit. Anyone have any tips/ideas that has worked for them or people they know? I know there are prescription medications that can help with the cravings but, wouldn't that just mean trading one 'drug' for another?

alphamale
I quit Xanax, alcohol and cigarettes on the same day. Had to be hospitalized cause the withdrawals were so bad. My dr. in the hospital gave me Ativan (Lorazepam) for 10 days to help with my withdrawal and anxiety symptoms. But here I am 5 yrs later and still smoke-free. If I can do it, you can do it. CautiouslyOptimistic
I have never smoked, but a good friend of mine took up painting, I guess to keep her hands occupied. I mean, painting became her addiction. She did it all time (still does it frequently) and got very good at it. She loves it and has been smoke free for a few years now.
