I see a lot of republicans accusing people of panicking because the stock market was crashing. But that was due to investors anticipation of supply chain interruptions, which certainly will happen. The ONLY panic I've seen is from stock investors. You're probably in an area that hasn't really been hit yet. We've got several hundered cases (I don't want to disclose my exact location). So people are more tense.

Not corn, carrots or any other canned vegetables, just peas. Someone must know something I don't. 🤣 Could it be that canned peas and Everclear are the keys to surviving the virus? carhill
Anyone who's had norovirus or even intestinal flu can relate how much toilet paper one can go through. 👍 Also, some cultures place a premium value on such things as historically they were a luxury. Back in my parent's time, TP was unheard of on the ranch and the free Sears catalog was used for that purpose.

I grew up in the country, 6 years ago I was living on 90 acres, off the grid (solar, spring and creek for water, no TV etc) surrounded by thousands of acres of open space. I am not a great shot, but shot guns up your chances, I know how to butcher an animal and grow produce. Always joked about how we were more than ready when we lived on the mountain - that property sits vacant today, purchased by Chinese investors. My husband joked if s*** really hit the fan we would simply go back and take the property over. But honestly - I give the coronavirus a 0.00000000000001% chance of causing armeggedon. It reminds me of all the other doomsday scenarios that come down the pike. Swine flu, Y2K, SARS, avian flu, that weird Mayan calendar end of the world nonsense. Mind you, they can be great excuses for a party. From the little bit I can remember of our last "end of the world" absinthe party, it was a really fun time. Take what precautions you need to, then sit back, relax and watch the show. Sometimes, it's all you can do.

Do you need help with anxiety? Need to eat more kimchi to help your immune system? Are there even any cases in your county? YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DIE. You are at more risk of dying driving to work each day. Do you pray that you survive your drive to work? Are there other things in your life stressing you out? Because freaking out about this isn't rational Ah the SARS epidemic. I was living in Southern Ontario at the time, and when it hit Toronto, ERs across the province cleared out almost instantly. It was one of the strangest things I have ever seen. I was only a few weeks away form my son being born, and had to got to the ER because i had kidney stones. It was empty save for a security guard. People were really scared, but the disease came and went and the majority were fine. We learned what we could and it made us better prepared- I hope. I've noticed some mention here of "the grid going down". and how people could cope. Interesting thing is we did cope, and coped quite well, when the grid actually did go down. I'm surpirsed no one's mentioned that huge power failure that hit the eastern portions of Canada and the USA one summer back in 2003/2004. I can't remember why exactly, but the power was out in the martimes, ontario, quebec, large portions of the eastern USA etc. It lasted for several days. I've never seen the sky so dark. 50 million without power, and most were just fine. The are are a lot of procedures in place people don't even realize are there until there's an emergency. I live on the East Coast. When hurricane Sandy hit a few years ago, we were without power for a couple of weeks in our area. We made it through. We knew a hurricane was coming and we bought a few extra things we might need but we didn't clean out shelves. Sure, if it were much longer or permanent, it might have been a different story. But there's no way to just start preparing now for something like that with the Corona virus now. It's too late for that. You'd never acquire enough. So if this is going to be apocalyptic, keep your loved ones close, spend the time being happy as you can be with them and tell them all you love them every day. You should be doing that any way, all the time.

vla1120
I work in the tech department of a public school system. All superintendents had a conference call with our Governor a few nights ago to talk about the possibility of shutting down public schools for 2-3 weeks, if necessary and if this escalates to our area (first case in our state reported this morning.) First of all, the possibility of working from home for 2-3 weeks??? YES, PLEASE!!!! Luckily, all of our curriculum is online and we have a 1-to-1 Chromebook initiative, so our students can be instructed and do school work from home with the flipped classroom model. My ONLY concern is that all of the grocery shelves will empty out prematurely. I'm not worried for me, but my three grown daughters tend to order in a LOT and they rarely cook. I just texted all of them and told them to go buy food enough for at least two weeks. Now....to get them to actually turn on the stove and cook? Haha. Knowing them, they'll get all canned goods and microwave their dinner for that two week period. I still think (hope) this will fizzle out. It reminds me of when I was in the Navy and worked in the Typhoon Forecast Center on Guam. There was a tropical storm developing off the coast. A man called our line and screamed into the phone "TYPHOON COME! ALL DIE!!"

Ruby Slippers
My boyfriend has had the slightest cold symptoms off and on for the past week and is worrying himself sick he has Coronavirus. He's kind of a worrier in general. I told him it's all in his head and he just needs more sleep. Probably a bit of allergies combined with a lot of overthinking. He went to the doctor today for peace of mind. He said it's free, so why not? The doc told him they "can't test for coronavirus" - doesn't sound right, but that's what this doc said, but there are zero chances he has it, said he'd test him for flu. He doesn't have the flu, either. I playfully said "I told you so." At least now he can stop worrying.

That's the reason we should be paying attention to all the precautions so that there is less exposure to all the other things that have similar symptoms and might cause people to run to the hospital. Reducing the other flu(s) out there is important now too. This will go a long way to managing the "real" thing if it comes to our areas, etc.
carhill
Not a medical person but I did wake up this morning with aches and a big head and congestion and went, hmm, then I looked out the front door at the snow of almond blossoms laying on the ground in the thousands of acres of orchards around me and, yup, it's that time of year and I'm getting my usual histamine response. Didn't see it mentioned so figured timely.
