Religion and relationship?

Recommended Posts

If they are really friends, shouldn't they be able to accept who you are? The GF especially for this...

Religion can make people irrational. Facts need not apply. There are religious people who practice and those who don't. I don't get the sense that you have a strong faith, so if you can let the rhetoric roll off your back you can enjoy your GF and friends. The problem is are they strongly radical? If so they will dig at you and increase the pressure to try to get you to react. It's human nature.

I tend to agree with you brother. These people will not be your friends in the future.

And what about my girlfriend? Shes also with me since I'm "progressive and different". Otherwise shes the same as the others  our only common point is workers rights. That's the only campaign I'm truly passionate about.

It never happened. They know very well I'm a part Israeli yet have no shown change in their attitudes. They are completely radical and so is my gf.

They sound toxic.   I'd move on from her and all the friends.

And I'd give the same advice if you were from any other war torn country where they were actively hating on the residents.

Would you think a relationship with such people can be sustained and successful?

Nope.

You need to find someone compatible with you, OP. Your girlfriend isn't it.

I think that at your age you have a driving need for acceptance and be one of the herd. That will dissipate as you get older and wiser.

But is this relationship worth it?

Well, no one can tell you if it's worth it or not. You'll have to decide that for yourself. Everyone has their own deal breakers. For some people, religion is a deal-breaker, for others, it's not. So you'll have to figure out what you can live with or not, and what kind of sacrifice is worth it to you.

If your faith is important to you & you are taking grief over it from your SO, it's time to get a new SO.  In a healthy relationship, SOs support each other in all aspects of their relationships.   I can't imagine maintaining friendships with people who despite fundamental core principles & things that make me me.

It's not about religion. It's about claiming that country shouldn't exist and having no support for my religion/country. Instead it's just hate.

What do you think? Should I finally call it quits or is it okay and I'm the problem in this particular situation?

I think that the first time she did this, you should have dumped her right then and there.

No, you aren't the problem here.  For you, they are the problem.

That is even more evidence that these people need to be out of your life.  Why do you want to associate yourself with that much hate?

It really doesn't matter what any of us thinks about the statement---it's how YOU feel about it and if you can repeatedly stomach the insults just because you get sex out of her.  I mean, now good can the sex be when you look at her mid stroke and her antisemitic rhetoric comes to mind?

I think it's profoundly simplistic and naive.

She claims shes not antisemitic. Claims shes simply anti Zionist. That's what all my friends claim.

You asked this question in direct response to me saying "They sound toxic.  I'd move on from her and all the friends"

Was I unclear?

The girlfriend is one of them.  All of them need to go.

There is a simple solution. Read a couple of books on the founding of Israel by a real impartial Historian. Don't read one by someone with an axe to grind. Find a couple that are balanced. Do your own research. Quit listening to your brainwashed friends and pundits on the television. Use your own critical thinking skills.

No. They cannot be friends with anyone who shares a different opinion to the.  They have no Jewish friends and none of them want to be in their group due to their behaviour. I act like I'm not from Israel and I never say anything positive about it, separate myself from it so I'm likef by them.

Thanks. Yes I did my own research. My grandma still lives there. What my friends and gf believe in is not wrong. Its 50-50 on both sides. But they will not listen to it so I choose to keep quiet.
