Life's too short and too busy to spend time trying to out-do another, especially someone you don't like. For inspiration, I turn to those I admire, not those I despise. To each his/her own, though... Don't know if I can describe it well enough but I'll give it a shot. Remember the 'Magic eye 3D' pictures, otherwise known as 'stereograms'? Could you see them? If so, you know how it feels to alter your vision so that you can see the images. In much the same way, you alter your presence at these events. Imagine psychically 'stepping back' from the fray. Someone else said be a witness - it's like that. Imagine a glass wall or some other shield/barrier between you so that you are not physically proximate to her. I guess it depends on the kind of working atmosphere that you are employed under. In my situation, the corporate politics and positioning can be lethal and career stopping at times, if you do not play to win.
