Fletch Lives Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Dating and Coronavirus So daters, it looks like a new virus may be coming to town, Corona. If you are single, are you going to continue to date? Are you open to kissing new people? Why or why not? 1
contel3 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 LOL I love this question! I see it as an opportunity to cut back on dates I'm only half enthusiastic about. Also it gives me an excuse not to kiss anyone I'm only "meh" about. If I meet someone I'm really super into though I don't think it would stop me from kissing them or going on dates. 2
Miss Spider Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Yes and yes, because I don’t let exaggerated, press-created hysteria influence how I live my life. 8
carhill Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 How do people date in flu and cold season? Do we socialize when we're sick? Go with that. It's got a proven track record. 2
smackie9 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Can still do most things over the net until it all blows over like chatting, facetime and cyber sex.....guys can even go rent a sanitized doll for an hour. 1
contel3 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Actually, the last person I dated is under quarantine… Won't stop me from dating, but it is kind of a weird feeling. I wasn't even that fussed, so it's kinda made me reevaluate about wasting time on people I'm not super into. Next time I'm going on a date it has to be worth it. 1
Watercolors Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 I draw the line at Bubonic plagues, Black Death, and Ebola viruses. Won't date people with those conditions.
BrennaR Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Makes you want to think, doesn't it? It certainly gives you clarity for no longer going on meh dates. 1
Gaeta Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I use the metro each and every day, I only need to be standing within 3 feet of someone infected to bring this back home with me. No kissing required. 2 1
mortensorchid Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 I do love this Corona Virus. People were cra cra about ebola a few years ago. I was working at a school where someone may have been on an airplane with someone who had it so they sent everyone home for the day. With pay. It ended up being just nonsense. But it's no different than any other potential cold/flu that's going around. I am very isolated these days so I have very little chance of catching it. In terms of dating? Is it any different than any other cold/flu virus from the past? Not really.
Author Fletch Lives Posted March 13, 2020 Author Posted March 13, 2020 It's now been almost two weeks since this thread was started. Do you still feel the same way? Why or why not?
smackie9 Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 Well the lighter traffic has been amazing here. 2

contel3 Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 I have reevaluated. I am in an affected area and put my whole life, including dating on stand by because of family members at risk. I don't want to come over as whiny, but I am feeling extremely unhappy lately. I don't know when life will be normal again. 2
nospam99 Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) For now, none of us know when 'life will be normal again'. For me, it sux bigtime. Edited March 14, 2020 by nospam99 1

This is the best post that I have read. I amazed how people are acting. I talked with one my investment pals and he said things will continue well into the summer. I made a post about friend's who own multiple homes beach, lake, etc and several are literally going for a month to kinda isolate themselves or is that just an excuse to get boats out...lol? 1

Nothing stupider than people taking reasonable precautions so that, even if they wouldn't be terribly affected by covid-19, they won't pass on the virus to someone who is immuno-compromised or has a pre-existing condition (or age) putting them at high risk. So silly of people to be worrying about others. Much better to end up like Italy. 8

They are acting that way because the risk of death from this virus just became real for many. Ok for those healthy and under 50, as the risks are a lot lower at the moment anyway, but many many young and healthy health workers died of the virus in China, it is not just a problem of the old and the infirm. Viruses are also pretty clever, they adapt and mutate. We have a virus here for which there is no natural immunity, no vaccine and no treatment and that is scary for most who realise the implications of that. 5

Elaine, that seems to be the most significant factor for most I speak with: NO vaccine and NO treatment. I think that is what has heightened the panic. I just went by my club and it looks like a ghost town and on a sunny mid-70's day it would normally be packed. 1
Lotsgoingon Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 I've lived through lots of panics, and by panics I mean situations were people freaked out without cause. This time is not a panic. The precautions announced, the events canceled ...all reasonable. 1

Gr8fuln2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 There is important information about this virus that is unknown. The fatality rate is considerably higher, statistically speaking, than the flu and does seem to concentrate the greatest lethality among our elder and immuno-compromised population. THIS IS NOT LIKE THE FLU. Not sure where people get this though the POTUS flippantly, on national TV, suggested as much and now we are in a state of emergency, our entire state has closed the public school system down, and it is considered a pandemic. There is also this mysterious notion that some have that warmer weather will save us. The virus doesn't care about whether the weather is warmer or not. It is all about exposure, replication, etc. Viral infections are mitigated because people are far less cloistered in larger number because people are heading outside more. Not because the virus doesn't like warmer weather. This virus is an issue for everyone involved. Regardless of age. However untouchable our younger and healthier population feels it is, they continue to be and are potential carriers of the virus and could spread it to the more vulnerable. And also, this virus does make all ages sick. You may recover quicker, but you will go through the motions of whatever symptoms it presents. Any illness becomes a risk. Some have mentioned that because there is no vaccine, this virus is may very well infect/affect EVERYONE, unlike the flu where many have developed immunity for obvious reason. 2

Gr8fuln2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Just now, simpycurious said: I also feel like things have gotten "silly" but it's still CRAZY how panic driven people seem to be. This is partly due to the fact that our medical industry is also have problems with this. Shortage of masks, gloves, no tests in many cases...when the population doesn't have confidence in the leadership and experts who should be leading the effort to quell misinformation, provide reasonable and objective guidelines, you get people buying 50+ rolls of toilet paper at a time, every container of hand sanitizer, etc. Things will level off one way or another. More localities are making their own decisions and not waiting. Our state only has a handful of confirmed cases, but good guidance and advice has led our governor to close public schools for two weeks NOW. 1
