Spring, I think you will have PLENTY of buying opportunities yet to come.  Rest assured fortunes will be made out of all of this.  Too many SOUND

companies being devalued and savvy people with liquidity are just waiting 😀

They are even closing beaches now so this really stinks

That’s frightening actually.
15 days ago confirmed cases was 83

5 days ago 1267

Now 4567 you say?

in 5 days hence?  15,000?

if you look at the data so far the US is on the italian curve, which if our social distancing does not work means over a 100,000 confirmed cases for the US

dont panic but don’t be cavalier and go about close social interaction as usual

And funny how it didn't get the coverage just two weeks ago when it's full blown now. And yeah, I'm sure the numbers will double, triple or quadruple. It's likely unavoidable but let's hope we don't go Italy's route or worse.

I would start buying now but I wouldn't sink it all into the market at once. I would feed it in over an interval of time which could be weeks or months. A little dollar cost averaging pays off in the long run. If you are a day trader, then on to your next conquest.

Well it did get coverage depending on the news sources you read...and there was warnings for the US to stock up on test kits.  Doctors and scientists have been saying this since it got big in China.  Major US networks? Of course not, the most important thing was to protect Wall Street.  There was ample warning for the US, there is and was ample data.

I think it really depends on how much our citizens social distance.  If we are cavalier...like what I read happened in Italy...I suspect not.

It may not have been unavoidable, but we are way behind the curve on what we could have done...if nothing else we should have stopped China buying all the test kits, masks and PCR machines we did have....although I suspect many of those are made in China anyway.

I wish I could maintain social distance, but it's almost impossible given what I do for a living. I maintain a safe distance and wash my hands like crazy, but I think that's the best I or any of us that have to work can do at present unless we're ordered to stay indoors.

I plan to take lots of walks and check out some hiking trails on the weekends. Maybe go hit some golf balls at the driving range.

Otherwise, I'm already feeling anxious about being stuck at home - my company has us working remotely for now and my normal social outings are going to be limited if not completely eliminated for the time being because of all the mandates to limit gatherings.

I understand the need for social distancing, but it's really causing me a lot of anxiety.  I didn't realize that my normal routines and activities were so important to my emotional well-being.  It's been an interesting realization.

And as far as investments - the losses are only on paper unless you panic and cash out.  Just stay the course, or as schlumpy pointed out, take advantage of the buying opportunities.  But it is disheartening to see my account balances getting lower every day.

Just a weird and unsettling time we're going through right now.

You are right FMW, the losses are on paper but STILL REAL.  It's panic/anxiety driven and I think a lot depends on the duration of this entire ordeal.  I mentioned in

another post that you will see a great deal of wealth generated out of this especially where the market is concerned.  I am like FMW in that I plan a lot of outdoor "activities"

and some fun ROAD TRIPS

True, for collateral accounts there is a real consequence of the values dropping so quickly.  Fortunately I'm a simple investor and can just let mine ride out the storm.

The bars/restaurants closing to seating is really going to cause a crisis for the workers and small business owners.  I have a lot of musician friends who are suddenly without work for the foreseeable future.

I really need to stop complaining about being stuck at home working remotely.  I'm one of the fortunate ones.

Things are just kind of surreal right now.

That's good advice FMW.  I am with you in that I am very blessed in many regards so being disgruntled about being inconvenienced is pretty petty. Also, you saying that it's

"kind of surreal right now" is spot on.  Now the gym is closing, the restaurants are closing to dine in customers, the BEACHESSSSSSSSSSSSSS are closing, hopefully not

too much else closes .

Unfortunately, you should take the virus seriously. The precautions are in place because people are dying from it. You may be young and not at risk but you can carry it and pass it on to someone who may end up dying from it. We all need to be more responsible in limiting the spread of the virus. We need to take care of ourselves and each other. Someone died in my city today.

Not sure who this was meant for or if it was a general post.  Regardless, I am taking it seriously but still going to be as active as possible.  There are lots of things you can

do alone or with some "social distance"  FMW and I can play golf together but not ride in the same cart or not get too close to our caddies or one another.  I think the point

is to take adequate precautions  but still try and LIVE YOUR LIFE. Of course, where I live is not locked down as of this moment.

Uhm, no you shouldn't be playing golf and assuming that just keeping your distance from your caddy and golf mates  is going to keep you safe.  Where you live should be locked down.

If you just do walks for exercise and keep your out of your own home activities to food shopping and necessary medical appointments. (do those with caution and make sure you keep your distance and use hand sanitizer often while at store/doctor office etc.  Soap and water wash when able.  This thing is highly contagious and you can have it, not know and spread it quickly.

Be safe.

@simpycurious, they declared state of emergency where I am and advised everyone to stay inside. I'm limiting where I'm going. I'm not worried but I'm trying to be responsible. This has the potential to overwhelm our health care.

If people keep having this cavalier attitude that they can go out and do such things then the only way to keep people inside will be marshal law.

I'm not playing golf - I'm hitting balls at a driving range, solo.  The one I go to is very basic so not overly popular, I usually have well more than 20 feet space around me.  The balls are dispensed by a machine, so I have the option to wipe all the surfaces or even wear gloves, as does anyone else who decides to use the range.  And my walking and hiking are solo, in wide open spaces with no need to be anywhere near anyone else.

I disagree that anything other than staying inside at all times is being irresponsible or cavalier.

I think it was recommended that you stay inside. That was acceptable for social distancing but they decided everyone to stay inside as much as possible. China has had the virus for 5 months! If we don't follow protocol then it will be here a lot longer then a few weeks.

Pretty normal. Few humans around so limited contact. Stormed good yesterday. Burned some of the trees I cut down and made a  pizza. Roofed the garden shed in time for the storm. Only negative is no machinery buyers, people uncertain and don't want to drive. Want to get the stuff gone, shop sold and get out of CA. Rural people usually are pretty self sufficient.

Played golf yesterday.  Our regular foursome.  Seems being outside on a golf course is pretty safe.  We went inside for lunch afterwards.  That's probably the biggest risk.

I would be curious to know how many are actually staying inside ALL day (aside from essential trips like the store or pharmacy).  I genuinely do not see why doing

something like going for a run or playing golf at a PRIVATE club when you come in contact with NOBODY IS OFF LIMITS.  As far as I know, none of those activities

are part of any BAN (for now anyway) but every new day seems to bring about more change.

No one around, I work/do stuff as normal inside and outside. Made some aloe/alcohol sanitizer to carry in the truck. Doing some attic work at a veterinary hospital Thurs so will pay attention there. Will use my full face respirator, nasty stuff in attics

Where I live it is recommended that we don't gather in groups larger than 10.  We have NOT been told to completely isolate or stay inside.

Same here FMW.  I sure do see LOTS of people moving about.  Lots of the beaches in Florida are closed or being closed but some

(evidently) are FULL of Spring Breakers.  I guess each state/county can make their own decisions on what to open and what to close.

Happy Lemming

I've just been painting, cooking and cleaning.  My girlfriend was concerned/scared/lonely and came to my home to "hunker down".  I have a good supply of food, etc.  She would have starved if she stayed in her apartment, so she seems more content and safe here.

She has been watching her "Real Housewives" on HULU, but it won't be long before she binge watches them all.  Hopefully she can find some movies to watch, after that.

The libraries here are closed, but I found a book from my collection she had not read.  So she does have that for now.  If she gets really bored, we'll play some Scrabble.

We'll get through it... day by day.

Most clubs that I know of have suspended all indoor dining but still have take out or curb side pick up.  They are discouraging using carts but recommending golfers

walk (carry your bag or use a push cart). They HAVE NOT suspended playing golf nor using the driving range.

I had severe anxiety disorder and did a lot of this hand-washing/cleaning/avoidance stuff then, I quipped last week 'when I did it people said it was mental illness, now y'all have it!'

I think it's important people realise too with this- they will have good days and bad days, upbeat and a bit depressed. That's normal when life changes and there's uncertainty.
