@Happy Lemming I hope taking her back home goes okay.

My girlfriend drove off in her car this morning... heading for home.  Earlier, I loaded everything in the old Dodge including some extra food, soap and toilet paper.

Her car made a strange noise (like a loose lifter or valve) when she first started it up (after sitting for 81 days), but we went around the block and after warming up, the car sounded perfect.

I am at peace...

*** As a side note *** My girlfriend admitted she is still scared, but she is going to try to face her fear in her little micro apartment.  I'll check in on her in a few hours to make sure all is well.

The sequel to my wife and I's favorite video game comes out in about three weeks and I ordered her the most expensive collector's edition. I plan to surprise her with it.

Eternal Sunshine

I have been having a lot of arguments with my parents about COVID and the fact that they have not been out for a walk in 2.5 months. They won't do it even with N95 masks. No exercise and no sun makes their health problems much worse. Given that Australia has less than 20 new cases per day, this is ridicoulous. They didn't want to see me at all during this time as they think I am too much of a risk taker and probably have COVID (which to be fair, I have not been super careful and I had symptoms in March).

They finally came over after I got tested and the swab came back negative. We all wore masks and they still insisted on social distancing but at least there is some progress. BTW not sure how many of you had it but COVID test was extremely unpleasant. Swab sounds so innocent, but that thing they put in your nostrils hurts like hell. I had some bleeding after and one of my nostrils still feels inflamed.

Things seem to be coming back to life in Australia with cafes being allowed to reopen from 1st of June.

I just spoke with my girlfriend, she isn't doing well in the little micro apartment.  In addition to it being quite small, she has too much stuff jammed into it.  She told me she feels like a hamster on one of those wheels that goes round and round.

She wants to come back out to my house, but I told her to give it a week and see if she can adjust.

Time to hit the dumpster or donate.  I moved from a 2800 sft house to a 900 sft loft a few years ago.  I learned really quickly how much I did NOT need to keep hold of.   Life in a small place is different - you can't buy in bulk, you have to keep things in their place.  And if they don't have a place - maybe you don't need them.  You can't be too sentimental about your belongings.

She just got spoiled with more space for awhile, plus all the extra provided services, like cooking and transportation.  If she comes back she'll never leave. It seems pretty clear that's not an option if your relationship is going to survive.

This pandemic has torn apart a lot of relationships so I am glad to say it has only strengthened ours. We realize that as messed up as this world is and as much it is falling apart we have each other and it is sad that it has had the opposite effect on so many people. It shows that when things get tough a person's true colors will come out.

Yeah, we’ve been lucky, too. Both of us mostly worked from home before, and so being together 24X7 really wasn’t a challenge. My H is winding down with retirement nudging closer, so he’s taken to being the domestic god, leaving me to focus on work, which has worked well for us.

We’ve found we’re on the same page with all the important stuff, which has been very reassuring.

Believe it or not, I know 2 people that coupled up because of the pandemic. LIke fast-tracked their new dating situation into moving in together. lol

Yeah, I know a few like this, too. Don’t think any of them have lasted, though.

Mine seems to be going pretty well actually - better than at some points in the past. We are around each other a lot more ATM, but we both know how to stay out of each other's hair when necessary, so on balance it's positive.
