amaysngrace
I went on errands yesterday just cause I was bored. The stores were empty and supplies were full. I didn’t need much of anything so just flirted with a guy who worked there a little but from a distance. I did grab some oj and strawberries to make the bottle of champagne I killed today go down better. So I’m glad I went. i also bought up two boxes of Fuego coconut so I’m good there for about three weeks.
Woggle
Is it safe to order pizza in this situation? A local place is doing delivery and pick up only and we want to support.

Those restaurants that are part bakery can be kept open because bread is an essential staple food to many.

A friend of mine is in a red zone, but they're still allowed to go out to get food. He gets there, and he notices the kitchen door is open. The cook comes out without gloves and without a mask, scratching her nose with her open hand 🙄 Edited March 24, 2020 by Azincourt

I don’t think there’s any evidence that it can be spread through food but it can def live on the box.

Maybe it might be spread if the cook coughs or sneezes on the food. Don't know, not a doctor.

Yeah, but you really start paying attention to how many people lack basic hygiene when you're more afraid of a miniscule creature, the virus, than of war with Russia or something.

Don't handle money, prepay, possibly wear gloves and a mask when you go to the door, keep at a distance with the delivery guy, put the box on just one surface (quicker to clean) away from where you eat, and quickly heat up the pizza in the microwave (high temp over 158 F kills the virus), in the meantime carefully wash your hands. That's the best you can do.

justwhoiam
We can get food delivered, mainly pizza. Some take away places closed temporarily for the coronavirus. Let's say 50%. But 50% still up and running. I guess places with too many people and too small kitchen have to close, because here you still have to observe the distancing rule, even on the workplace. You need to be a bit comfortable to go through all of this... because it's not a 2-week thing. Not to repeat myself, but the Chinese are still battling it, and it's in month 3 (officially), though they started having weird pneumonia cases last November. So if you need to take the New Jersey ferry, it's one thing. If it's a transatlantic voyage, it's another thing. So get comfortable as much as you can to hold out as much as you can. That's the best you can do. That sounds like a lot work. Think i'll just take my chances. Stopped at one of my regular lunch spots for pizza today. They've laid off 11 people already. This is one of the small businesses that is hurting from this. Been going there almost 15 years, really hope they don't close because of this, it's a great family who runs it. They are in an industrial area and with so many businesses closed it's not that busy. Actually I did take extra safety. I took it to go, and ate the pizza by holding it with the foil instead of touching it with my hands like normal. Who doesn't pay with cards now though?
FMW
Wow, it seems really strange to hear of someone actually being able to go out to eat. I guess I'm adjusting to this new normal better than I thought!
