What are you doing these days?

Recommended Posts

.

Although some of my other posts may suggest otherwise, in the cold light of day I am a little worried about this virus- I think I need to avoid it more than most of my age group (previous chest infections)-isolation really is my best chance of this

Most of my work and leisure activities have been put on hold- Anyway what I will do over the coming while

  • Walk and Run- Most outdoor activities are closed but I can still do this.
  • Cooking and Juicing
  • Learn Spanish- Improving at it
  • Write a Book- often wondered could I do something different- have a few ideas- might give this a go
  • Mother - Mother getting on in years/ need to check her daily see that shes ok-
  • Girlfriend- think we will manage on video calls for a while thou will miss our meet ups.
  • Listening to Music
  • Browsing here- I enjoy these forums actually
  • Boxsets/Movies

Overall its much more indoors than ideal for me but its not to bad really I suppose.

What will you do?

I've got to still work because I have little choice. The bills unfortunately aren't going to pay themselves. I just rarely leave (if ever) during the weekends as an extra precaution and maintain a safe distance and wash/sanitize my hands frequently each and every day. I never miss a beat. I'm not going down like that if I can help it. I'll determine my own fate.

I think I’m battling depression.  Being indoors and confined mostly to my yard is wearing on me.  Plus I also lost my job last week.

i have a lot of things I could be doing, should be doing, and will be doing once I pull my head out of my ass.

Thanks for asking.

I'm lucky that I still have work and can work at home. I know it's going to slow down. In fact it was already slow before this happened. But this is the time of year it would start getting more busy, normally.

I've got one more day of painting left in the master suite, then just some touch-up on the molding, etc.

At that point, I'll move on to do some preventive maintenance on my work truck.  I'll change the fluid in the differential, I always buy GL5 gear oil when it goes on sale, so I have a gallon in stock.   I also need to repack the front wheel bearings, change the oil & lube the chassis.

Then I'll move onto my Yamaha R6 (motorcycle).   A couple of months ago, I purchased a new set of front brake rotors as the original ones are starting to show a little too much wear and are out of spec (too thin).  I've got a new set of pads as well, so they'll go on with the new rotors, then bleed the system with fresh brake fluid.  Back brakes look good, but I'll probably bleed them out with fresh brake fluid, as well.

Lots of gardening, cleaning and catching up on tasks I've been procrastinating. There are various half finished DIY tasks that I'm getting around to finally...so really, I haven't had much time to sit around getting depressed about life as a shut in.  To be honest, I'm actually quite enjoying it as I feel like I'm accomplishing a lot. I fully appreciate, though, how lucky I am to have a garden - and I've thought a lot about people who are stuck in high rise flats.  Especially those with kids.

I haven't spent time reading or playing the piano as I planned, though maybe I'll do that in the third week of the lock in.  When I take a break I do my usual and go on the internet while watching tv (especially Netflix)  even though I'd resolved to do a bit more old fashioned reading. At the moment, though, I'm too antsy and keen to get things done around the house.  I think, too, this virus has switched me from about a 5 (on the scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being a disgusting hoarder and 10 being a pathologically compulsive cleaner) to a 7 - so that's good, and I bet I'm not the only one.  Manufacturers of cleaning problems must feel like they've won the Euromillions 100 times over.

Mostly been playing video games, watching a few shows/ movies I've been wanting to catch up on, and that's about it. I'm currently laid off from work.

In a way, it's kinda funny, in a morbid sort of way, because I've always very much been a homebody, so one would think I'd be loving this. But after the first few days, I've really not been liking it. I very much miss going to my friends' house and spending time with them. That's been the toughest part. But even not going to work feels odd. I feel like I'm sitting in front of "screens" all day, now, in order to pass the time, but it's killing my eyes and killing my brain. @_@

But, there's not really much else to do. Can't exactly leave the house, so what more can I really do with myself right now?

Especially having no adjoining houses directly next to ours and farmland across the front , there's no reason why we can't be outside around the yards and stuff is there?   And if anyone walks past they're a good 10 mtrs out from our fence line .

l'll probably finish up at work next week and so apart from living it up around the house we were also thinking of doing some outside renos and yard stuff. Ya kind of feel like you should be locked inside though don't you.

I've temporarily given up socializing for the most part (except text / phone), dinning out, events, and fishing. A friend asked why I've given up fishing........that's an isolated activity to an extent. It's because I would use gas and would have to go to the gas station more. As it stands, by only driving to the grocery store every couple of weeks, I should have enough gas in the tank to last a couple of months, lol

I'd like to go to the gym but that's not possible. I am getting some upper body workout from the gardening/home improvement stuff I'm doing, but I need the leg machines at the gym for my legs....and they are too expensive to buy and I don't have the room for them, so what can I do? I thought about taking up jogging on the street, but I'm not sure how safe that is. I suppose I'll look into online aerobics classes, or find out what Zumba is all about, lol

I'm redoing my garden, repairing the roof, and building a home theater. Also, working on a new product launch for my home business. That and of course there is always the net, phone, movies, music, and video games. I have enough to keep me busy for months, if not a year.

Edit: Thinking more about leg exercise......maybe I'll look up some dance classes on Youtube. Ya can't have too many killer dance moves!

Fletch, I like your style.  When this is done you will be the best dancer around.  Nothing like some fun going dancing with a FUN lady.  You can run more or swim.  I am running a lot and starting to swim more.  Still going to the golf club and pretty much else is the not that far from the same.  Loving taking the new puppy for walks.  I love the warm weather and so many people are out moving around.  Nothing like late spring and summer the weather is perfection

More of the same for me today. MORE stuff I probably shouldn't while I'm in self imposed exile.

I added a fuel stabilizer (Sta-bil) to the gasoline in my vehicles.  I'm also thinking my full tank of gas should last for several months (as well), so I added the fuel stabilizer to the gasoline to keep the fuel from going south.

doesn't gas already have a stabilizer in it?

I didn't know there was such a thing to keep gas from going bad when the car isn't driven.  And there is no coming back from a bad tank of gas getting all up into things, so be sure you are right about that.  I've had custody of three vehicles that had to be junked from bad gas (my precious Firebird) and two of them gas sitting too long while owner was in nursing home.  I spent thousands trying to save the Firebird to no avail.  Had to just junk the aunt's car, which we had hoped to keep as a backup car.  And then the RV, spent thousands and never really knew if it was fixed right to last or not, but had to sell it for the estate.  It's really not worth saving a little in gas money to take chances like that!  Gas is super cheap right now, in the US, like $1.70 dollars.

I saw it for $1.56 a day or two ago.  It's like the "old days," but ironic you can't really go anywhere.  I'm still tempted to go to a cabin somewhere with my dog, but I'd feel I had to sanitize everything right away, just in case.

Given that I've been temporarily laid off, I'm making videos on Skillshare to develop a side-income.

A friend of mine is an event DJ, so his whole business is at zero, of course.  He's 60 and I'm very proud of him for going right out immediately and taking a job at a grocery store icing cakes in the bakery.  No, he had no idea how to do it.  He is artistic though, so he has a steady hand.  I think that's great.  He'll go back to DJ'ing once he can.

Yes... Sta-bil - fuel stabilizer will keep gasoline from going stale for up to 12 months.  I use it to stabilize the fuel in my motorcycle for "winter" storage, although our "winters" only last about two months. The manufacturer recommends putting it in if you are going to store your vehicle for 30 days or more.  If I don't buy gasoline for 30+ days, I'm considering that a form of storage, you do need to follow all the instructions on the bottle.

Personally, I'm a little worried about touching a gasoline pump handle, who knows the last time those things were cleaned and how many people touch them on a daily basis.

Sorry to hear about your Firebird... ☹️
