What are you doing these days?

Recommended Posts

I've been keeping busy with my hobbies such as arts and crafts, sewing, reading new york times best sellers list, and taking long walks in the parks enjoying autumn weather!

I went up to my local pharmacy and got my "flu shot" today.

I got mine about 10 days ago, through work. The local surgery has now contacted me to say they’ve got new stocks, to schedule an appointment, so I’ve saved the NHS £15 that can vaccinate someone else.

I ordered my seeds from a local garden centre but they were dispatched by another branch about 200kms north of me and then went to a city approximately 600kms south of me, to eventually arrive to me about 10 days later!!🤣 not sure how that happened. I also ordered some new jeans, they only took 3 days to get here and traveled about 25km even though there is a branch of that store 2km away

Yeah, the carbon footprint of online shopping is a bit horrific. We live in the sticks, so almost all of our shopping is online. On any given day I count at least six Amazon vans tearing down the lane (excluding deliveries outsourced to Hermes, DHL, etc) and think, there’s got to be a better way of doing this.

Got my third covid shot on the weekend, and am finally feeling better. They opened up the vaccine system for people to get a  third shot if they meet certain criteria, so I got mine

I am hoping to carve two pumpkins, before tomorrow evening. The trick-or-treaters always come around the Saturday before Halloween, but there is a big school football game happenig on Saturday, so they are now coming around between 6pm and 8pm tomorrow.

I won the on-line auction that I was bidding on for "V"'s Christmas present.  She likes two toned silver and gold earrings, so I was bidding on a pair of small Ralph Lauren earrings and won.

Also (after returning from the dentist) "V" told me the dental hygienist suggested an electric toothbrush, so I ordered her one of those as an early Christmas gift.

I might poke around on-line and try to find a necklace that goes with those earrings, but I've got a good jump on my Christmas shopping for "V".

Yesterday, I finished tiling the shower area for "V"'s bathroom.  We need to make a run to the tile store for some grout and a new grout float.  The shower surround turned out nice and "V" is very happy with the result.  She said it is exactly how she pictured it in her mind.

This project did take longer than I expected, as my big tile saw stopped working about half way through.  I had to finish up with my small tile saw (which takes longer).  I did tear down the motor on the big saw and I think the bearings have just worn out, so I ordered up a new set of bearings.  I hope that fixes it, as I have more tile and granite tile work I want to do.

Just got my booster shot. I have heard "it's fine" and I have also heard "it's worse than the 2nd" so like all this it seems your mileage may vary.

My husband is getting both his booster and his flu shot on Saturday. I am not-so-secretly hoping it kicks his ass because he is a workaholic and would benefit from the rest.

That's what I plan to do.  I've read that based on studies, it might provide the greatest protection.  I have an appointment for the 15th, I needed to wait a few weeks because I just got a flu shot.  My doctor recommended not having them at the same time.

Sure enough, I at least am having 2nd shot reactions all over again. I was doing just fine (minus an hour or so of dizziness immediately post-shot) until 18ish hours, at which point I realized I felt like crap. Fever of 103 even with a fever reducer. It's honestly not that bad if you just lay down and rest. Currently in bed doing some mandatory compliance training, the sort you usually save for the week after Christmas.

Vaccines are awesome and remain undefeated. Get your shot. Keep everyone safe. Let's take care of each other.

I only had dizziness for a while with my original J&J shot.  I'm a little worried about having side effects from my scheduled Moderna booster 😕  I'll just plan to have low key days for the 48 hours following it.

I just finished assembling two small, plain book cases I'm going to use for shelves in a storage closet.  They were much cheaper than other shelving options and seem to be very sturdy. Perfect for what I needed.

Thank goodness they  just required a Phillips head screwdriver.  I assembled a lot of Patio furniture this summer that all required hex keys.  I hate those!

I go the third one a while back. It was worse than the first two. The odd thing is that even though they'd announced that people meeting certain criteria could get their third shot, the "system" isn't set up for booking one. I ended u being the first person at the mobile clinic to get  third shot, so they had get all that sorted.

Update: he put on the Rolling Stones to dance a little bit and went to bed at 9 o'clock (he usually goes to bed at 1-2 or later). I need to figure out how he can get these shots every day.

I scored a necklace on an on-line auction that "mostly" matches the earrings I got a few weeks ago.  So, my Christmas shopping for "V" is complete.

All I need to do is wrap everything up, find a nice ham for Christmas dinner and I'm all set for the holiday!!

My Xmas shopping is done for my nieces & nephews. I'm ordering everything online and turning my head the other way to people annoying me with buying local. There are a lot of small merchants on amazon that would not survive without it. I don't think taking my car, driving around an afternoon to find 1 gift is better to the environment than that 1 truck carrying 300 gifts. I should be in *rant about it* section lol.

It's a beautiful day, l will put away my patio furniture today. Some of my neighbors put up their outdoor xmas lights already, before it gets -20. I'm not mentally ready for xmas lights yet.

Yesterday it hit 90 degrees in the desert.  Earlier in the week, I was going to take the Evaporative Cooler apart, clean it, bring the pumps inside and winterize it, but when I saw the forecast; I decided against that.

Glad I held off because it got hot inside the house and I had to turn it on to cool the place down.

In the past, I've never used my Evaporative Cooler in November, but this year temps are above normal.

And no... I'm not ready to put up the Christmas lights.  I usually do that the day after Thanksgiving and take them down on New Years Day.  We'll see, I don't really know if I'll put them up this year, I have a lot of other projects that need to get done, first.

I've been steadily working on the guest bathroom, transforming it into "V"'s dream bathroom.  The tile and grout are done and she picked out a lavender shower curtain, which is on order.  One item "V" did request was a "grab bar" for stepping out of the tub/shower.  We looked at various ones and purchased a small one at Lowe's, which I installed at the perfect height.

I guess installing that first "grab bar" in a bathroom is a definite sign that one is getting old.

It's cool to hear you talk about your projects. My father enjoys doing essentially the same thing as well.

"Dad, watcha up too?"

"Oh, just laying some bricks," he says.

Then he'll send me a photo of a 10 foot by 20 foot concrete wall that surrounds his residence.

It's pretty amazing stuff!

I spent all day (yesterday) trimming my big Mesquite tree.  I saved most of the wood for the fireplace and grill.  I like cooking hamburgers/hot dogs over mesquite wood.  "V" really enjoys anything prepared on the grill over mesquite wood, but especially likes steaks.

I'm taking all of the small limbs to "Green Waste Recycling" where they'll be mulched and reused for ground cover or compost.

I usually have to do a "big trimming" once a year on that tree as it grows like crazy, especially after it gets a little rainfall.

It's been 24 hours since my COVID Vaccine booster shot.  No side effects!

My original Vaccine was Johnson & Johnson, I got the Moderna booster.

I cut and dyed my girlfriend's hair today.  She was going to try to go back to the salon that used to do her hair (before the pandemic), but they have closed.  I guess that business is yet another victim of Covid-19.
