What are you doing these days?

Yesterday I adopted a little kitten from the local SPCA. He's sooo cute! Ginger tabby with amber tiger eyes, super feisty and playful, loves to jump and play, also super cuddly. There's a process for introducing a new cat into an existing cat's territory, and I'm following that. He and my adult female cat are very curious about each other, checking each other out under the door - the first step. I'm sure that when the time is right they'll be good buddies.

So you have a male and female cat in the same household... is either one or both fixed??

Both were spayed/neutered as kittens. In my opinion, it's not cool to let animals breed unless you're prepared to take care of all of them well for the rest of their lives. If I ever want to expand the feline family, there are many sweet kitties in shelters that need good homes.

Be patient Ruby.  If they get along right away, great.  But don't give up.  Hopefully they'll start playing paws under the door.  I've got a ton of experience introducing cats to each other.  When things go bad people give up too easily.  Good luck.  My wife and I are big cat people having saved many over the years.  😺

I put the bug in a coworker's ear to coordinate a Halloween costume on our team video call with me the week of. We only have to do waist up. We're gonna be these two particular lady rock stars from the 80s. Hey, you gotta have fun where you can. I'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun 😎

We used to do themed family Zooms each week, and this was one of our themes. (We’ve dropped the themes now, because *one couple* was taking it farrrr too seriously, and ordering costumes off the internet, while the rest of us were just diving into our cupboards and using wash-out dye on our hair.

...which didn’t always wash out so well, resulting in my appearing at some work Zooms with interesting after effects. 🤣🤣🤣

I finally got Pooky into the groomer. She hasn't been groomed since March.

First the virus shut down everything. When it did reopen my groomer had sold her business and the new owners felt my dog was too ill to take care of. I went to the vet the next day and the vet tells me to find a new groomer. So I do.

Today was the soonest they could get her in. She's a bichon so she is all puffed out and ragged looking.

But she has to go back to the vet. I found blood in her urine this morning. I will find out more tomorrow.

It's been 3 days and my adult cat is having none of it. The little kitty is eager to meet her and play, but so far she's only hissed and run away.

I'm heading to the hardware store now to pick up one more wire shelf to add to my homemade cat screen with zip ties. This will extend it so I can split the house in two, with each kitty having their own side, and letting the little guy hang out with me while I work at my desk in the dining/living room.

I think it'll take a while for her to get used to him. But that's fine. Worst case scenario they avoid each other. I think he'll eventually charm her with his relentless drive to play 🐈

My dog took a couple of weeks to really adjust to having a new dog around (not a puppy). We kept them separated, but with the ability to see and smell each other (through stair rails, and large window screens blocking off the stairs at different points. My dad was the one to finally let them in the same room together, and they were okay. We had a couple of small scares after that, but no more, in almost two years.

You re doing good.  Patience is the key.  It took one of our guys over a year before he learned to get along.

Spent the year in our bedroom and could only come out when the older boys were out in the pool (area).

He's still a wise guy sometimes, but he's the littleist so he's got some Napoleon complex in him. Lol

My friend was worried about the same a week ago and now she sends me pics of them cuddling together.

They seem to be making some small progress.

This morning, I had the doors to his room open because he was chowing down on breakfast and I knew he'd stay put till he was done. She comes sniffing around, and I called her into the room. She tiptoed in, swishing her tail, intently observed him eating a while, then hissed at him and ran away.

Now he's meowing under the door and she's lightly hissing and swishing her tail at the same time, keeps inching slightly closer.

lol cats are adorably crazy.

Will he play with something like a fishing rod toy or a teaser/wand?
if so get him interested and she I guess as a kitten will definitely be interested. If they are chasing the same toy they will forget their animosity.
You may find there will be growls and hisses occasionally but you need to keep distracting them.
If one or other gets scared or tired, stop, and put it away but try again later.
Some older cats will not play so it will not work with them, and some kittens can be a bit hesitant but it is worth trying it out with both cats alone before doing it together.

They're just establishing their roles and their territory, takes a while.  A long time ago my ex-husband and I got a second kitten when we had the older one first for about 3 months.  For the first week or two they were hissing and giving each other major stink eye.  But they eventually became close and cuddled together for the next 17 years that both were alive.  Especially with the age and temperament difference of yours it will just take a bit of time, they have to work out things between themselves 🙂

The two I have now were litter mates, and they still have occasional hissing fits when the little boy is being too obnoxious and seeking attention and the girl just wants to do her own thing and be left alone.  They are funny creatures.

The kitten is male and the grown cat is female. I was told by cat people to get a male kitten, as a male and female cat usually get along better than two females.

He's eager to make friends and pretty much fearless, at the age where he'll happily play with a ball of lint for a while, but she's not so sure about him. She is showing signs of curiosity and relaxing her defenses a bit. I'm sure it will keep improving.

Making big progress on the kitty befriending process. This morning, just one week later, they're playing together. Not in perfect harmony, but they're getting there. The adult cat is laying down the law and the baby is being playful and respectful. My prediction is that they're going to be total love bugs before long 😻

One of my few claims to fame during this period is that didn't know anyone personally that has Covid. That has changed. I was just informed my Aunt Bonnie who is 76 has been diagnosed with the virus and it looks like her son, daughter-in-law and grandkids are feeling poorly.

They recently returned from a vacation to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee which is a resort town. They were there for a week. Did everything and went everywhere. Lots of FB pictures without any masks.

I thought this trip was ill advised but they didn't ask me for my opinion. Anyway, the odds were in their favor - until they weren't.

I think I will keep on doing what I'm doing.

^ I hope they're all ok. A friend of my mom's got it. But she admitted she hasn't been as careful as she should with protective measures.

Over here I'm mired in overseeing distance learning. My kids are doing amazingly well. They like to be prepared and have kept up with all of their work. These first couple of weeks focus heavily in ironing out technical glitches, though. They have been Zooming or FT with their friends anyway but they're loving being able to see a whole class again.

I talked with my Covid infected Aunt yesterday. She seemed lucid and in good spirits. The headaches have passed and her breathing is better. She feels she is on the mend. Her voice is ragged. I told her to watch out for strep throat which can sneak in disguised as just another symptom.

The doctors have her on Benadryl.

I feel confident that she's still the tough farm girl that she has always been and things will be OK.

I'm loving the extra time at home. My new little kitten in settling in nicely and the adult plays with him in doses. He's a total fireball, bounces off the walls and climbs the 7-foot cat tree in 2 seconds flat. The other day they were zippily chasing each other around the house, adorable.

Last night I found some orange string lights in the garage and affixed them to my fireplace screen to look like a cozy fire - a nice touch for fall, and this kept me from buying the pumpkin lights that were enticing me in the ads.

I just ordered some gorgeous "angel blue" china silk (a shimmery light teal) to make myself a slinky short gown - for half the price of a store-bought one or better, in exactly the color I want, tailored to me 👩‍🎨

Hmmm, l have a dilemma in that department, your lucky. My gf's 51 and blonde/greyish when it's not recolored  . Well apart from the greyish coming through her hair which is  a bit like a wild woolly sheepdog or something , she only looks about 30 , but somehow as soon as the grey starts she suddenly looks a lot older even older than her age. Strange how it makes such a difference when really nothings changed but she likes the grey, l hate it. Although l'm not that into blondes l love hers it just looks cool all untamed the way it is , getting harder and harder talking her into some recolor though .

The age gracefully movement, I don't like it one bit, why keep your hair grey when you can color it any color you want and look more vibrant, fresher and brighter!
