PanamanianPR
My mom is Panamanian so I'm technically Caribbean, but I'm from the states and everyone has been skeptical of my online relationships with Caribbean women. I've been talking to a woman in the DR for 6 months and I'm considering proposing. I was planning to meet her on May 5 and stay for a week, but that is no longer an option. I think she is dying for me to propose whether I come or not and I don't want to disappoint her or her daughter. My mom thinks she's using me, my sister is a little more forgiving. I don't know... Anyone else in a similar boat? I keep on hearing about cons and people doing everything for money or to come to the states. Would love to hear from anyone else who has experience with a Caribbean bae.
basil67
Would you be proposing because you want to propose? Or because SHE wants you to propose? Do you think it would be wise to propose to someone you've never met face to face, nor spent substantial amount of time with?

I don't know about the Caribbean part, but I can 100% see how your family is skeptical of the bolded. You even used the plural there, which suggests you've had more than one. Proposing to someone you've only 'met' online 6 months ago is not, ahem, conventional to say the least. 2

There's a reason for that skepticism. It is well-founded when you conduct cyber relationships with women you've never met, OP. Your family and friends are trying to protect you because it doesn't appear you quite understand the significant risks involved.
Azincourt
Online dating can work out, the thing is, you need to make sure she sends you videos and photos of her early on, also you gotta talk to her face to face on the webcam to make sure the pictures and digital content belong to her and not to some random fashion model she/he took the content from, so you don't end up wasting months on a dude pretending to be a woman, or a woman who was pretending to be younger/more attractive than what she really is. But what's the fixation on carriebean women ? Are you of carribean descent? Do you want to move to the carribeas? Also, there are women who aren't interested in the men they are talking to, but they want an American greencard. Be very careful about that. I remember a few years ago reading about the marriage stastistics, and apparently half of the local men who had gotten married last year had gotten married to Southern American women. Lots of green-card gold-diggers out there. Protect yourself. Edited March 31, 2020 by Azincourt
Fletch Lives
There are a couple of problems with mail-order brides. First, you may not really know if there is physical attraction, which is important, until you meet. So you may waste six months only to find out within minutes one or both do not like the other. Also make sure she's not just a golddiger after the American dream - tell her you'll move in with her in her little shack with all her family and see how she reacts. Whatever you do, don't ever send money to someone you have never met. Edited March 31, 2020 by Fletch Lives
preraph
Any woman who is dying for you to propose and has not met you is not a good or smart woman. Please use your common sense. She's willing to marry a guy she's never met and expose her kid to that on top of it all. Very irresponsible. She should have Child Protective Services called on her if she follows through on that! Of course, she's using you for green card and money! She doesn't care if she's ever even met you. And meeting one time is not enough to choose a new father for her child. And by the way, where is the real father of her child? Why is she able to just move away and him never see his kid again?

Chances are you told her you have a good job, can take care of both and own your house. Ha! Be a keeper because of who you are not because of how much you make/own (anyone making $60,000+ is an ideal candidate). Quote Whatever you do, don't ever send money to someone you have never met.
