Leadership is lonely

I remember my father saying this when I was young and stupid. Now that I am completely responsible for the business, now I understand what he meant when he said leadership is lonely.  I often have to make decisions solo. I have access to information that I can't share with anyone. And now in these times where it's all about survival, I am forced to take decisions. One of the trickiest parts of being the leader of a small company is realizing that while your team cares and supports you, no one is there to share the accountability. You are on your own staring at the uncertain future. I don’t think anyone understands how I am feeling about us.

Well, if they care and support you, you're lucky because a lot of bosses are well hated, no matter how good they may be.  I suppose if any of them are armed with enough info to help you make decisions, you could do a limited think tank of those who might know enough to think of a solution.

It does suck when you have info you can't talk about.  I am in that position too, and especially on here, it is very hard to not be tempted, but most of my work is confidential and some of it is at a high level.  You just have to learn to trust yourself.  And you have to realize that every successful person will make mistakes!  That's okay.

I wish I could brainstorm with someone. Can't discuss with my staff, they will panic. My ex-H has helped me with business in last few months but he has a lot to deal with now and I don't want to disturb him.

I deeply understand you friend “Many are called but Few are Chosen”.. Leadership is accountability - to your stakeholders, public, employees..

Responsibility whether Big or Small u have to decide favorable or not to the parties concern.

At the Top when you are alone u can pray & ask God’s guidance..

Someone in my family said it sucks as they have people whining about dumb s*** while they are deciding peoples fate everyday. People have no idea what it's like until they are a leader.

I got some temporary relief. My father rescued me and put some money into the company. This will take us forward another 6 months without having to fire anyone. My exH is helping me set up an alternative revenue stream which is parallel to the existing business. Hoping to get the cash flow by July.  Fingers crossed.
