You should absolutely not be Paypaling someone else money who you don't have a lease agreement with, because the roommate can come after you and say you didn't pay and didn't have her permission to pay someone else, etc. I don't understand it either, she like incriminated herself by doing that! plus once you gave the check, it wasn't your right to tore it at all! Your goal is to ensure that you pay according to the legal document you signed (the lease) and then get out of crazyville! The reason I tore up the paper checks after she was hospitalized is because I know she wouldn't deposit them. Her sister is in town right now visiting my ex-roommate. So, I think I will text them both to get together and will hand over a money order of the unpaid rent with the sister as a witness. I feel like this is the only way I'll feel like this matter is solved.

I called animal control before I moved out of ex-roommate's house. They wouldn't come out to get her cat because I had taken care of the cat for the past year. So, they would only come and get the cat if the ex-roommate abused the cat while living there. And since ex-roommate didn't leave her bedroom for the past year, I had no case with animal control. You tried your best but some things in this world are out of our hand. Some people should not own cats/ dogs or any pets.

You tried your best but some things in this world are out of our hand. Some people should not own cats/ dogs or any pets. I really tried. Animal Control warned me that I would legally be in trouble if I had taken my ex-roommate's cat with me when I moved out, so even taking her cat wasn't an option for me even though her sister approved of me taking the cat. No, she shouldn't have a cat as she is not a responsible adult. I fear for that cat's well-being now but my hands are legally tied. Animal Control wouldn't have taken the cat had I brought the cat to the Animal Control bldg as the bldg is closed to the public for COVID. No one can adopt pets right now at least where I live, due to COVID. I'm hoping that animal shelters open up their adoption hours again mid-summer. I plan to adopt 2 senior cats. I have 2 10 foot tall windows in my studio apt. that I can attach cat hammocks via suction cup (thanks to Jackson Galaxy's videos on how to catify small apt spaces). I can definitely "catify" my studio apt. windows and even put a really tall cat tower by one of the windows to give my future cats more vertical space. But yea I am frankly worried for my ex-roommate's senior cat's well-being. That cat grew to love me; she'd knead my belly every day, and circle it, and then lay down on my belly. At night, she'd sleep on my pillow next to my head. She always came when I called her, and she loved to play with me. I will miss my ex-roommate's cat so much. But, my hands are tied.

And you are going to have the sister who wouldn't even give you her address be your witness? You think she wouldn't lie? Paper checks, certified mail, call it a day.

Paper checks, certified mail, call it a day. But my ex-roommate will not deposit those checks. She just won't. And, then I will have those months of rent unpaid hanging over my head. This could go on for years. You know, she hasn't paid her ex-husband child support in a couple of years. So, I have no reason to believe she'd every deposit my rent checks. I have to find a way to get those months of unpaid rent paid so that I can't leave this whole year of living there behind me. So, it's not as cut and dry as you argue it is. It just isn't. I'm not over complicating anything.
Author Watercolors
edit: can leave.. Also, Clia, you have never lived with a mentally ill roommate before so you can't throw stones at me unless you've been in my shoes. These situations aren't cut and dry at all, when you are dealing with a really mentally ill person. And for you not to acknowledge that shows me how little you know of this situation. Author Watercolors
Well it worked out. My ex-roommate texted me today to ask if I wanted the winter boots I forgot and left behind. So I went to my bank, got a money order check then met up with ex-roommate at her house. We had a positive exchange and she apologized for the past year, and told me she felt shame and guilt for what she put me through. When I went inside her house to get my winter boots, everything was everywhere which I'd never seen before. It looked like a tornado hit the inside of her house. But, my rent is paid now and there's no hard feelings between us. We resolved our awkward roommate experience with our conversation, and will each move on with our lives now. So, all's well that ends well, as Shakespeare wrote.
