PA Democrat goes off on Republicans

Recommended Posts

CNN YouTube:

Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims and his Democratic colleagues are accusing Republican leaders of keeping a Republican lawmaker's positive coronavirus test from them for a week and not informing them that a handful of GOP members were quarantining as a result. In a statement, Republican state Rep. Andrew Lewis confirmed he tested positive for Covid-19 on May 20 and immediately began self-isolating after working to notify anyone he had contact with while in the Capitol. Democratic Leader Frank Dermody told CNN he and other Democrats found out about Lewis' positive test May 27 -- after Lewis said he had finished his self-isolation and announced his diagnosis publicly.

The whole rant is on Sims' social media page. He wants consequences to be resolved against Republicans.  Apparently, NO contract tracing was done by those who were infected and the Pa. Democrats were left in the dark about it.

Were not the Democrats the main driving force behind the medical privacy laws that were passed years ago? The same laws that will not allow the doctor to discuss my wife's medical status with me unless she agrees?

How does it feel being hung by your own rope?

Uh, no. Those same rules have very clear exemptions---mandates, even!---for disclosures during a public health emergency. What happened here is disgusting, criminal, and may have put countless lives at risk. Why would anyone celebrate a selfish choice that endangers others?

You are aware Lana that congress routinely exempts themselves from the effects of the laws they pass?

If it's criminal then indict, trial and punishment. I notice it's only being used as talking point which means I can ignore it.

Is Governor Cuomo going to prison for requiring nursing homes to accept covid 19 patients which resulted in thousands of deaths?

Absolutely personal privacy. The argument is not that the individual should have been revealed, or a personal medical history, but that staff be advised of the existence of a diagnosis so they could have quickly made decisions to self-quarantine, stay away from family or whatever. No rope necessary as the argument is not that this individual's personal information should have been given. It should not; he himself publicly disclosed. Stating that a 19 case was confirmed in area whatever is not a disclosure of personal information.

I have not heard anything in the rules passed down through my state government that says I have to inform my neighbors that I'm infected or my workplace for that matter. I might do so because I'm that type of person but there is no requirement that I do so.

Lana said this was a criminal act. They may claim it as a social crime against society but unless there is the real possibility of prosecution it's just a talking point being used by a political party in an election year that I may safely ignore.

What are you doing up so early in the morning? I'm retired. I have an excuse.

I personally didn't say it's a criminal act and AFAIK it isn't...and actually I'm not sure what isn't a political talking point due to this being an election year. We all know it's been political since the word go. I believe this is more of a moral than technically criminal outrage but then again it pretty much says so right in the subject line, so I took it that way reading the original post.
