To me conventional is just like ordinary, and yeah, I do find ordinary good looking guys attractive. But I think the thing with Ryan Reynolds (and typically I don't dissect people's appearance like this lol, this is just for the sake of discussion) is that he is not one of the more 'universally' aesthetic guys i.e. conventionally attractive/classically handsome. Body-wise, perhaps he is closer, especially for women who like ripped dudes. But facially, his face doesn't abide that much by golden ratio. He's kind of a silly looking dude, now that I'm looking at him. Almost a caricature. 

 

Eyes too close together, forehead too big/features too small, face too oblong/10

Hahaha I'm kidding, but seriously, it's really weird he's being picked at the pinnacle of male beauty. I get a lot of guys think he's funny too.

Yes i agree. His face just isnt massively proportioned or something is off. I don't like his face shape either much. Sounds weird but face shape is a massive thing  for me.

Nah I just don't think we're as nit-picky about male looks. We don't see the degrees of "pretty" or "edgy" or "classical" and the exact facial proportions and shapes and features and eye distance etc. I'm not a connoisseur of male beauty. Ryan Reynolds is a stock conventionally handsome guy to me. So are the list of other male celebrity names given in the replies. Handsome white male celebrities in their 30's or 40's. Not necessarily. My preferences are still there for the celebrity  world and real life!. It doesn't  change.

There are many attractive men who have hit on me, asked for my number etc...doesnt mean im going to jump at the chance to get to know all of them.

And some guys have been like "are you serious dude? Scarlet Johansson? You don't think she's hot??" She's a very good-looking woman, but no, I'm not crazy about her. I think she's a little overrated, in fact. 

Where I think posters are getting just a little too self-indulgent is with "ew Ryan Reynolds? No way. His xyz facial features aren't good enough etc. I would never date him."  Because it's not something I, as a heterosexual man, fully understand. Good looking is good looking to me. If she's good looking, I'll have sex with her. I'm not going to be like "ew, Scarlet Johansson? Her lips are too big, she has a pug nose, her smile is too gummy etc." If she were sitting next to me at a bar, I would chat her up. For sure.

Is Julia Garner on the level with Emmy Rossum or Jessica Alba? No. She's not conventionally Hollywood gorgeous, she doesn't get cast as "the hot girl" but I think that's where she shines. And yes, I think she is very pretty. Given who I am and the women I've fallen for in the past, she appeals to me.

So I totally understand the individuality of preference. I just don't how that then goes to "ewww" to those who don't conform to that preference.

That’s an exaggeration. They simply said they have others they would pick first, so they wouldn’t date someone who looked like him. I don’t see much reason for someone to lie or delude themselves  regarding a person they’ll probably never meet. 
 

And pertinent to discussion because an assertion made was that if you find one person unattractive, even if the majority finds them attractive,  you’re too picky. 
 

Maybe it just means not everyone finds the same people sexually attractive. I know that just blows apart the black and white, dichotomous world loveshack so often tries to hold onto

I am merely questioning whether you find Ryan Reynolds unattractive, as in repulsive, or, 'not as attractive as [male celebrity].'

Because I do think that distinction is important for the sake of this discussion. You've made replies here that would indicate you find Ryan Reynolds un-dateably ugly. Which would fall neatly into an LS dichotomy.

Ok you're just making things up now and putting words in peoples mouths.

No one said he was ewwww. Just said hes not as attractive as you think he is. I don't  think i would date him. Not that hes undateable. But i wouldnt have the desire to. 

Maybe the male version of julia garner to me.

Ok now  i understand why in everyday dating life... some men make some weird choices 😂.
